DOES IT REALLY MATTER?

White, black, brown, yellow or red skin...does it really matter?  English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, German, Hebrew, or any other language...does it really matter?  Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Atheism, or any other religion or the absence of belief in the existence of any deity...does it really matter? Straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning...does it really matter? No matter what the difference is between another person and you...does it really matter?

Racism, bigotry, anti-Semitism, and prejudices of all kinds must go away.  We must all learn to live together.  Oh I realize that my dream may take centuries to achieve, if ever, but our nation...and our planet...cannot survive throughout eternity if we continue to poison each other with human hatred.

Prior to recent American history, Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, and Independents who lean either way, could disagree - even vehemently - but without the incendiary hate that has been spawned and encouraged by the current political climate and by certain politicians who entice others to become enraged.  In the past, there has always been at least some common ground in the United States among all political factions.  But not anymore. America is too polarized...too divided.

Our country and our world would be a better place if we could all get along like the dog and cat in the photograph.  But as long as so many Americans...and so many others around the globe...do not take my views to heart...we will unfortunately live under a cone of hatred...instead of one where we share each other's pains and live together in harmony.

So we all need to try.  One person at a time - with little effort - can reduce the hostility. Therefore, think the next time you want to say or do something against another person's race, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, or anything else that might be hurtful.  Ask yourself...might my action be considered offensive and would I want someone to maliciously harm me in a comparable way? Might it even be interpreted as evil?

Does it really matter what another individual looks like...what language they speak...who they pray to...or who they love?  No...it doesn't.  Or at least it shouldn't.

And that's The Controversy for today.

     I'm Gary B. Duglin.

     "We'll talk again."
