What appeared like the beginnings of a barroom brawl, Donald Trump - furious that Republicans lost the House of Representatives in the November 6th, 2018 midterm elections (although he won't admit it) - picked a fight with CNN's Jim Acosta at a press conference on November 7th.  Several hours later the White House announced in a statement by press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that Acosta's White House press credentials - known as a "hard pass" - have been revoked "until further notice."

Trump entered in to a confrontation with Acosta because that's what Trump planned to do.  Let me repeat that.  It's what Trump planned to do.  With the "blue wave" victory by Democrats to take control of the House come January 3rd, 2019, I believe Trump needed to immediately get the Democrats big win out of the headlines and by attacking a veteran journalist from CNN, I think Trump thought his madness would prove successful.

In a heated exchange with Acosta, Trump used vicious words to verbally pummel CNN's chief White House correspondent.  "CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them.  You are a rude, terrible person.  You shouldn't be working for CNN."  Trump's cruel display of anger is one more demonstration of a man whose wicked temperament is reason enough that he is totally unfit to serve as president of the United States.  No American president has ever before addressed a reporter in such a disgusting, despicable and disgraceful manner.

As a response to The White House action, CNN issued their own statement in which the cable television network backed their employee.  "Jim Acosta has our full support."  Acosta has lost all privileges to The White House grounds.  According to CNN, Acosta's authorization to gain access to The White House has been stripped "in retaliation for his challenging questions at today's press conference."  CNN's statement went on to say, "This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better."

Trump and Acosta have had an incendiary relationship throughout Trump's term. Prior to his unpresidential behavior at the news conference, Trump had already - in a tweet the same day - called the media "nasty and hostile."  The White House clearly lied in their remarks about Acosta as the Trump administration claims that during the fiery exchange Acosta was "placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern."  The White House accusation is totally untrue.  I watched the press conference live and have several times reviewed the tense back-and-forth between Acosta and Trump.  Jim Acosta never touched The White House intern.  CNN is correct when they insist that Sarah Huckabee Sanders "provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened."

In other inflammatory communications at the same press conference, Trump also battled with NBC News national correspondent Peter Alexander and PBS White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor. To Trump, Alexander graciously defended his CNN colleague.  "In Jim's defense, I've traveled with him and watched him.  He's a diligent reporter who busts his butt like the rest of us."  Trump pounced at Alexander with..."Well, I'm not a big fan of yours either."

As for Alcindor, she presented the following.  "There are some people that say that now the Republican Party is seen as supporting white nationalists because of your rhetoric.  What do you make of that?"  Trump argued..."That's such a racist question."  There, of course, was nothing inappropriate with Alcindor's question given Trump's declaration on October 22nd, 2018 that "I am a nationalist."  Nationalists are synonymous with Nazis, white supremacists and the Ku Klux Klan.

It is so obvious that Trump is upset that Democrats kicked his butt in the House of Representative races.  It's further clear to me that Trump was on the warpath before the news conference began and wanted to engage in combat with what Trump has consistently labeled, "the enemy of the people."  CNN's Acosta - who Trump has sparred with before, but not with such explosive results - was, to my thinking, a pre-meditated target by Trump, so by creating a fracas with Acosta by demanding that he "sit down, sit down," it was one more example of Trump showing his true colors that being president isn't enough, but that he wants to be dictator of our country.  Remember that in June 2018, Trump - with a serious tone - told Fox News...that he wants Americans to treat him as North Koreans do Kim Jong-un. "He's the head of a country, and I mean, he's the strong head.  Don't let anyone think different.  He speaks and his people sit up at attention.  I want my people to do the same."  Republicans wanted to spin it that Trump was joking.  It is not at all funny for the president of the United States to jest that he wants to be dictator.  But that was his attitude in June...and from observing Trump's rabid rant at Jim Acosta...it's his mindset still.

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. Gary, I had to stop laughing so I could write this. I give credit to the Dems for taking the House but this was not a “blue wave” it was the average loss to a President in his first midterm election. Obama lost 63 seats and Clinton lost 52 those were red waves. As for the Senate the GOP may end up gaining 2-3 seats, which is an unprecedented win for the GOP and the President.
If anyone came looking for a fight it was Jim Acosta who is a Trump hater and was looking for an altercation with the President to continue his 15 minutes of lack luster fame. If CNN also known as the Clinton News Network was not a biased leftwing organization they would fire him. You wrote “no American president has ever before addressed a reporter in such a disgusting, despicable and disgraceful manner,” that’s because we never had Donald Trump President before, this is a man if you get in his face (verbally) he will get back into yours and knock you on your butt (verbally). I would say he is a modern day Teddy Roosevelt. Acosta should have handed the microphone to the intern and sat down instead he had to block the young lady from getting the microphone and continued his antics trying to push the President into this type altercation. I think that Acosta was one step away from the Secret Service stepping in and removing him. Yamiche Alcindor is another left winger who was trying to paint the President as something he is not, the word “nationalist” per Webster’s dictionary is “an advocate of or believer in nationalism” and says that “nationalism” is “loyalty and devotion to a nation” in other words a Patriot which is not a “racist” term. You and your “PC” friends want to make into something it is not and maybe some hate groups that are “white nationalist” who are racist and disgusting, may try and claim that this is what he meant, but it would be more lies.

    1. My response to the above reader will be in THREE parts.

      PART ONE OF THREE

Wayne, Wayne, Wayne...you must be somebody who can't help himself because not only have you been DRINKING the Donald Trump Kool-Aid over the last two years, but you have been receiving it INTRAVENOUSLY.

As with anything else, there are degrees of "blue waves." However, that being said, THIS was definitely a "blue wave" for the Democrats. One major publication labeled it this way. “Democratic ‘Blue Wave’ Washes Over House as Republicans Keep Senate.” Another newspaper headlined the midterm results... “Democrats Take Control of House as ‘Blue Wave’ Wipes Out Republicans.” When all is said and done, the House scoreboard is projected to be 230 Democrats to 205 Republicans. Republicans lost numerous districts in states that voted for Trump in 2016. Democrats were flipping seats as if they were acrobats in a circus. And when all is said and done in the Senate, it could end up exactly the same numbers as before the midterms...51 Republicans to 49 Democrats. If Arizona, Florida and Mississippi (after a runoff election) go to the Democrats, that's the way it will be.

As for Trump's behavior with Jim Acosta and the other reporters, as I stated in my column, Trump was looking for a fight. It's his method of operation. Trump had every intention to enter in to a combative situation when he walked in to the room. You can try to poison your brain with falsehoods, but it will be Trump's lies - in the end - that is going to bury his presidency. You can spew your venomous hate all day long. You can call CNN the "Clinton News Network" and label it with your viciousness "a biased left-wing organization"...but YOUR Fox News (as a whole, not Shepard Smith) hasn't provided the truth with anything.

    2. PART TWO OF THREE

Wayne, do you truly understand the animosity in your voice? Do you hear yourself and your vindictive tones? It is not at all appropriate for a president of the United States to "get in to (someone's) face (verbally)" and "knock you on your butt (verbally)." I think Trump wants to incite a bloodbath in the White House Briefing room so he never has to talk with anyone in the media ever again (except, of course, Fox News). Trump is being chastised worldwide for his disgusting action and his despicable behavior in the November 7th press conference. And then for The White House to once again lie about Acosta is a disgrace. For Sarah Huckabee Sanders to write that Acosta had "plac(ed) his hands" on the intern...that clearly is untrue. You claim he "block(ed)" her. No. Acosta was being horribly attacked by Trump...and Acosta's only weapon to defend himself was the microphone so he could be heard. Donald Trump doesn't deserve an ounce of respect because he doesn't give any respect. If the Secret Service had done what you suggest, I shudder to think how that would have resulted.

As for Yamiche Alcindor...she is 100 percent correct. A "nationalist" is synonymous with Adolf Hitler. A "nationalist" is synonymous with people who kill Jews, kill blacks, and who hate anyone who is not as white as the driven snow. Do not ever interchange the word "patriot" with "nationalist." A "nationalist" signifies racist support. A "nationalist" IS a racist. And Donald Trump is without question a racist. He has proved it for three years since becoming a candidate.

    3. PART THREE OF THREE

Wayne, I had hoped that Trump would have continued with a softer tone, as he began to do when he talked about Nancy Pelosi. But then his hateful anger, his true colors, came out again. But I'll be discussing that point in an upcoming column so I'm not going to get ahead of myself here. You'll have to wait. Trump doesn't want bipartisanship. Trump doesn't want any compromise. He wants everything to be HIS WAY...and ONLY...HIS WAY. Well, he learned from Tuesday's elections that America is not going to let him do that. Now it's time for you to learn the same thing. Whether either of you - or any other Republicans - accept that fact, is a question that, for now, has no answer.

  2. Gary, beside all you false statements in your blog I have a question for you. You always get upset when people call you a hater or talk about your hatred, telling them you hate nobody. Yet you feel you can call others haters just for sharing their factual opinions, why don’t you just admit you hate President Trump, Conservative Americans, Americans that believe in the US Constitution the way it was written and basically you hate anyone who disagrees with your far leftwing progressive opinions. Please just admit it. What gives you a right to call me and others haters when you won’t admit that you are the hater!

    1. Wayne, first of all...none of my statements in either my column or my response to you above are false. Secondly, nowhere in my column or in my response above to you did I in any way tell you that you're a hater. I did refer to your comment about CNN being the "Clinton News Network" and in reply to that say..."You can spew your venomous hate all day long." But by you labeling CNN as a "biased left-wing organization" does speak to your hate. So I think my response was justified based on your remark. However, Wayne, it is you and other Trump supporters who continue to bring up Hillary and Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and other Democrats, and make derogatory comments about them that can only be perceived as hate. I have written in numerous columns over the last three plus years that I in NO WAY hate Donald Trump. Oh I know there are lots of people - perhaps millions - who do use the word "hate"...but I have never stated a personal hatred towards Trump. I loathe and despise what he stands for and how he treats people, and I strongly dislike him personally, but that's a far cry from "hate." It's disgusting that you make a comment that implies that I "hate" Trump, conservative Americans, and Americans who believe in the U.S. Constitution. For you to attack me in such a repugnant way is reprehensible. I have many conversations with friends and colleagues who are Republicans and I have never had anyone but you and certain other so-called "Facebook friends" use the harsh language that you do. For you to insult me and write that I "basically hate anyone who disagrees with (my) far left-wing progressive opinions" is contemptible. So there is nothing for me to "admit" as I am NOT a hater. But you go ahead and follow your leader - Donald Trump, "the hater-in-chief" - but I can assure you that his hate...and his lies...are what are going to take down his presidency. I just hope he doesn't take down our country before that. GBD
