I have been a great fan of TV's Jeopardy since the late Art Fleming first hosted the Merv Griffin created production when it debuted on NBC in 1964. Through Jeopardy's phenomenal history - including Art's 12 years behind the podium in the 1960s and 1970s...and the more recent 34
seasons that Alex Trebek has emceed this Emmy Award winning syndicated television game show giant - Jeopardy has been entertaining, educational, informational and fun. But in the more than half-century since the original Jeopardy show aired, the two broadcasts of the 2017 Tournament Of Champions, which aired on Thursday, November 16th and Friday, November 17th, 2017, with finalists Buzzy Cohen, Alan Lin and Austin Rogers (from left to right
with Alex in the photo to the right and in the video at the link below) have been the most fun of all Jeopardy programs. Alex Trebek made a similar comment on-the-air. "Of all the tournaments we have done on Jeopardy, this year's Tournament Of Champions has been the most fun. We've laughed, we've had some good times. It's almost as if the money isn't important."

These three contestants - Buzzy, Alan and Austin - are a trio of very smart people...each with different personalities and backgrounds...who competed against each other in the hope to win one-quarter of a million dollars. But as both a journalist and a viewer, it was obvious to me - without any doubt - that these three individuals like each other. And I'm confident that such a sentiment is shared with most everyone else in the Jeopardy TV audience. Buzzy, Alan and Austin seemed to truly enjoy playing with each other...and they had a whole lot of fun doing it. In turn, such fun was transmitted to each and every viewer.
At the end, it was Buzzy who won the $250,000 with Alan winning $100,000 and Austin $50,000. But each of them also won a tremendous amount of money from their previous appearances on Jeopardy. That being said...the cash aside... Buzzy, Alan and Austin are the ultimate Jeopardy champions. Not just because they won games...not just because they received big checks from the Sony Pictures Television owned show...but because of all that fun...fun that they provided to Jeopardy fans. It's true that Alex, the producers, writers, director and others on the program staff and crew are chiefly responsible for the series' overall success...but in this particular tournament, it was Buzzy, Alan and Austin who sparked the mirth and merriment that tickled our funny bones while, of course, helping to exercise our brains.
Therefore, in the spirit of Jeopardy...the answer is: The late Merv Griffin would be proud of this two-day television event that featured contestants Buzzy Cohen, Alan Lin and Austin Rogers. What is the 2017 Jeopardy Tournament Of Champions?
Yes...it was the best!
And that's The Controversy for today.
