WOODWARD AND BERNSTEIN, WHERE ARE YOU?

For Donald Trump to basically say that the United States is no better than Vladimir Putin's Russia...is a disgrace.  And voters who elected Trump should be ashamed of themselves.

Unless you've been living in a cave over the last couple of days...you are fully aware of Trump's reprehensible remarks.  In an interview with conservative talk show host Bill O'Reilly - which aired on the Fox Television Network on Sunday, February 5th, 2017 before Super Bowl LI - Trump's conversation with the Fox News broadcaster...found The Oval Office occupant once again showing his reverence towards Putin.

     O'Reilly:  "Do you respect Putin?"

     Trump:  "I do respect him."

     O'Reilly:  "Do you?  Why?"

Trump:  "Well, I respect a lot of people...but that doesn't mean I'm gonna get along with him.  He's a leader of his country.  I say it's better to get along with Russia than not.  And if Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS, which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism...all over the world..."

     O'Reilly (interrupting):  "Right."

Trump:  "...major fight.  That's a good thing.  Will I get along with him, I have no idea.  Very possible I won't."

     O'Reilly:  "He's a killer though.  Putin's a killer."

Trump:  "A lot of killers.  You got a lot of killers.  Why you think our country's so innocent?"

I will continue to ask the questions that I have posed to Republicans...and certain Independents...since November 8th, 2016.  How did any decent-thinking American cast his or her ballot for Donald Trump?  And don't give me the answer... "Because we didn't like Hillary Clinton."  THAT...is a cop-out.  That excuse is no longer acceptable...if it ever was.  Trump's offensive and rude insults towards everyone from certain women...to Latinos and Muslims...to a disabled reporter...to a Gold Star mother and father...and to so many others in between...should have proven to all Americans that Trump was not fit to be President of the United States.  But it was his despicable words on July 18th, 2015...belittling Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona...who, as a U.S. Navy pilot, was shot down over Hanoi... spent five-and-a-half years in a North Vietnamese prison...being tortured time and time again...that should have been the demise of Trump's chances at the Presidency.  "He's not a war hero.  He's a war hero because he was captured.  I like people who weren't captured."  Such vulgarity from Trump should have buried his campaign for President long before the primaries even began.  And now...Americans are stuck with him.  At least for now.

What deep, dark secret about Donald Trump...is in the mind...or on the tip of the tongue...of Vladimir Putin?  What is it that Putin knows...that Trump fears?  Did Trump - at some point in the past - give some of his U.S. dollars...to benefit Putin's poisonous political ventures?  Is this why Trump has never released his income tax returns to the American people?  They helped our country in 1972 with Watergate... so now where are Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein...when we need them again?  What other team of reporters will crack the Trump-Putin story?

Trump has criticized heads of state who are U.S. allies - the leaders of Germany, Mexico, Australia and others - but he "respect(s)" Putin...who is a former KGB agent...a murderer.  Therefore...there has got to be a reason why Trump has not - and apparently will not - talk smack about Putin.  There's got to be a reason why Trump will not say one bad thing about Putin.  There's got to be a reason why Trump would express the notion that the United States military...that the United States government...that the United States as a whole...is morally equivalent to Putin and his Russian Federation.

Putin is an authoritarian dictator.  He and his Russian regime stand for no freedoms to their citizens.  Of course the United States is all about freedoms to American citizens.  Our First Amendment makes sure of that.

Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska perfectly put down Trump when he was interviewed on Sunday, February 5th by ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos on his This Week program.  "There is no moral equivalency between the United States of America - the greatest freedom loving nation in the history of the world - and the murderous thugs that are in Putin's defense of his cronyism.  There is no moral equivalency there."

Meanwhile...Ohio Governor and former Presidential candidate John Kasich is among numerous other Republicans who have slammed Trump because of his Putin praise.  Kasich tweeted on February 5th..."America has been a beacon of light and freedom.  There is no equivalence with the brutal regime of Vladimir Putin."

And another 2016 GOP Presidential candidate - Senator Marco Rubio of Florida - tweeted on Sunday..."We are not the same as Putin."

If Donald Trump continues to receive such strong negative reactions...such powerful opposition...from Republicans nationwide...he won't need to be afraid of Democrats calling for his impeachment and removal from office...it'll be his own Party who will eventually boot him out of The White House.

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. First I won’t go into his recent remarks, I don’t agree with the President. I don’t understand the uproar from the Democrats and the Left; you guys have been saying the same thing for years. President Bush lied, we invaded Iraq to steal their oil, isn’t that what the left said for years. Then Obama got elected and went on his apology tour, apologizing for how evil America was and for all the terrible things America was guilty of throughout the centuries. So what’s your problem? As for your repeated question why did anyone vote for President Trump, you don’t get it we truly believe that Hillary Clinton is a lot worse. I believe her policies are diametrically opposite to what America is and should be. We need strong boarders, we should never give amnesty to illegals that broke our laws to come here, and that commented a crime doing it. No more refugees, I would say permanently, but I would take until we can fully vet them. We need to get the Federal Government out of things that our Constitution says belong to the States, read the 10th amendment. We need lower taxes and fewer regulations. We need a foreign policy that our enemies are afraid off. We need a VA that takes care of our Vets and is willing to fire those that don’t. We need a Conservative Supreme Court. Those are just a few things we need, the list goes on and on after 8 years of Obama. I won’t even start on how the ACA has lowered the quality and raised the cost of healthcare, it needs to go. Clinton would have brought more regulations, amnesty for illegals, more refugees, pushed more federal control, less safe boarders, more handouts, higher taxes , higher healthcare cost, she would have appointed leftwing liberals to the Court and that’s just the short list of what is wrong with Clinton. I won’t start with all of her foreign policy failures. Many of us know President Trump’s faults; I don’t believe he is a racist or homophobe or that he hates immigrants. He can be rude and sometimes doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut and in many ways he is not conservative enough. He sometimes has no filter and many people like that. I don’t. As I said I don’t agree with his comments but don’t understand why you and the left aren’t jumping for joy, it’s what the left has been preaching for years, America is the problem in the world that’s what you (the left) have been telling us.

    1. I have written on numerous occasions - in the hope that regular readers would finally stop - but either you are not a regular reader or you refuse to respect what I request when responding to my column. I will not reply to readers who do not express their views on the subject matter for which I have written about.

The above commentary focused on Donald Trump's un-American remarks to Bill O'Reilly regarding Vladimir Putin and Russia. The first line of your comments read as follows: "First I won’t go into his recent remarks." I will not, therefore, respond to your comments. However, please do not use my forum to spew venom that has nothing to do with the commentary written.

    2. There was no venom only my opinion. My response was to your commentary, you asked the question: “I will continue to ask the questions that I have posed to Republicans…and certain Independents…since November 8th, 2016. How did any decent-thinking American cast his or her ballot for Donald Trump?” You asked the question and I responded. Just because you didn’t like the answer doesn’t make it a cop-out or wrong. Millions of good and patriotic American looked at Hillary Clinton as a danger to our Country and their way of life. Right or wrong, isn’t that the right of every American to make that choice and vote for what they feel is best for America! Isn’t that The American Way?

    3. It has nothing to do with - "because (I) didn't like the answer." It's that you - and others like you - write the same stuff...over and over again...no matter what I write in my column, Republicans want to give the same answers about Hillary Clinton. That is why I included what I did in my column above. It gets to a point that I'm tired of reading the same comments. If I wrote the same commentaries week after week, I'm sure you would not want to read The Controversy. Therefore, I don't want to read the same responses from people like you...week after week. Focus on something more important at this point. Focus on the crux of my column. And this particular column was to slam Donald Trump for his remarks to Bill O'Reilly about Russia and Vladimir Putin. It was to show that not only liberal progressive Democrats like me...not only Democrats in general...but many Republicans are bashing Trump because of his despicable comments. So give me a break. Stop already with your criticisms about Hillary Clinton. Enough is enough. Focus on the meat of my column. Instead, you began your earlier response with "First I won’t go into his recent remarks." I want to hear from my readers that Donald Trump shouldn't be making the reprehensible remarks that he is making...and that he is unfit to be President. With a 36 percent approval rating - according to Gallup - Republicans who voted for Trump are now indicating that they are sorry that they did. What about you? Do you really believe that Trump should have been elected President? Do you really feel he is best for our country? Will you feel happy when he gets our country in to a World War...or as I wrote last week, a Civil War...and Trump and Congress begin the military draft again? How will you feel when your husband or wife...or your father or mother...or your son or daughter...or your grandson or granddaughter...or your brother or sister...or your nephew or niece...or any member of your family...or your best friend...is sent off to war? Will you be happy when the economy tanks? Economists and economic experts of all kinds are saying that Trump is going to bury the United States financially. 97 major U.S. companies have filed a lawsuit against Trump because of his executive order...his "Travel Ban"...his "Muslim Ban." Just look at Ivanka Trump's clothing line. Nordstrom has already removed her clothes out of all their stores. And other major department stores throughout the nation are talking about doing the same thing. Donald Trump should never have been elected President...and it will be proven sometime in the future...when he is impeached...or he resigns...or God-forbid worse (as I don't wish him any harm). That's not what I'm about. But think about my questions. Think about my statements. Because we're headed straight to hell...with Donald Trump leading us all the way down. GBD

  2. If you’re so tired of the same answer, stop asking the question! Remember one of the signs of insanity is asking the same question over and over thinking you’re going to get a different answer. You are not getting a different answer because that’s the truth, as bad as you want to make President Trump, Hillary Clinton is worse, a lot worse! Maybe it’s time for people like you to stop acting un-American , yes I said UN-AMERICAN, it is un-American to write a column with the intent “was to slam Donald Trump” that is PRESIDENT TRUMP . You have such hate “to slam” maybe you next step is to join Madonna with what she has thought about , another un-American hate filled leftist, how about Sarah Silverman, another un-American hate filled leftist calling for an armed military coup. Guess what, the military overwhelmingly supports President Trump. You asked if I was sorry I voted for President Trump, the answer is easy NO I’m not sorry, I had two choices and Hillary Clinton was a way worse choice. I don’t believe we will end up in a World War with people being drafted, it is fear mongering by the un-American left that doesn’t like an American President standing up for America. There is no Muslim Ban, once again the lies of the left. There will be no civil war, if there was and I pray there isn’t the left would lose quickly, the right has the backing of the military and the conservatives have most of the guns. Companies like Nordstrom are disgraceful and I hope they go out of business, what has Ivanka done to them, she stands up for working families, wants childcare and family leave, I guess those are all bad things in the eyes of the left. I think you are a person that is all about hate, you hope for an impeachment or resignation for no reason but your hate. We are not headed for hell we are digging our way out of the left wing hell Obama and the left put us in

    1. The response to the above reader will be in two parts.

      PART ONE OF TWO

Believe it or not, there are a tremendous amount of people all across the United States who are, in fact, changing their answer these last three months since election day. With only a 36 percent approval rating, millions of Americans who voted for Donald Trump are now "sorry" that they did. This is not something I've made up in my head. It's not a falsehood. It is not fake news. It is a fact. Voters throughout our country are now admitting that Trump is "bad" and they are regretting casting their ballot for him. Many one-time Trump supporters are acknowledging now that they should have voted for Hillary Clinton. You can say you are "not sorry" for voting for Trump, but facts are facts, if the election was today, he would not win...and Hillary would.

You are not only a hater, but you are a nauseating and despicable human being. Wait a second, a human being wouldn't make such comments as you do. To accuse me of showing "signs of insanity" is contemptible.

You've got a lot of nerve...and if you're a guy, you've got big balls...to tell me that "Maybe it's time for people like you to stop acting un-American." Seventy-five percent of Republicans believed for 8 years that President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States. And you want to call ME "UN-AMERICAN." You and others like you are UN-AMERICAN. Yes...Trump deserved to be "slammed" (metaphorically speaking) for his remarks to Bill O'Reilly of Fox News, when Trump put the United States in the same category with Vladimir Putin and Russia. O'Reilly: "He's a killer though. Putin's a killer." Trump: "A lot of killers. You got a lot of killers. Why you think our country's so innocent?" Donald Trump is a disgrace to the Office of President and a disgrace to our nation as a whole.

Don't be so sure that the United States doesn't get involved in a large scale war overseas and/or a civil war in our own country.

There is no Muslim Ban NOW because Trump's executive order has been blocked by a federal judge. The order will go to the U.S. Supreme Court and it will be overturned. Even Trump called it a "ban" in speeches and in tweets. You cannot deny that. Trump's executive order..."Travel Ban"..."Muslim Ban"...is unconstitutional. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution does not allow religious discrimination and that is clearly what the executive order states.

    2. PART TWO OF TWO

You're a mess. A real mess. For you to even say that "the right has the backing of the military, and the conservatives have most of the guns" is beyond sickening.

Nordstrom took Ivanka Trump's clothiing line out of their stores because NOBODY IS BUYING HER CLOTHES. The Trump brand is going down the toilet because of his actions. "Daddy Trump" has destroyed his "little girl's" business because more and more Americans throughout the country do not want to be wearing anything that says "Trump" on it. This has nothing to do with being personal against Ivanka Trump. Women won't even try on her clothes in the stores because of her father.

YOU are the true hater. I would never "HOPE" for the country that I love to have to suffer through another impeachment or resignation of a President. I don't know how old you are - since I don't know WHO you are - but I lived through the near impeachment/conviction/removal from office and the ultimate resignation of President Richard Nixon. It was a "long national nightmare" - to quote President Gerald Ford. And the impeachment (no conviction, no removal from office) of President Bill Clinton, was a Republican witchhunt, which cost the taxpayers millions of dollars. Even after President Clinton's impeachment, his approval rating was still in the sixties. By the way, just in case you are uneducated about the following (as most people seem to be)...impeachment of a President - by the U.S. House of Representatives - is the same as an average citizen being indicted. And an indictment does not indicate guilt of a crime. A conviction by a jury when it is pronounced that the citizen defendant is guilty would be equivalent to a President being convicted by the U.S. Senate. People want to use President Clinton's "impeachment" as if he did something bad. Just like the average citizen who is acquitted...so was Mr. Clinton. Special Prosecutor Ken Starr didn't like President Clinton and, therefore, he went on a witchhunt. So NO...I would never "HOPE" for our country to battle through another impeachment, but if Donald Trump doesn't get his act together...as I wrote in my column, it will be the Republicans in Congress who will push for impeachment, long before the Democrats.

As I noted earlier...we ARE headed straight to hell...with Donald Trump leading us all the way down. And unfortunately, it could take years...if not decades...before we will have a return ticket back to Earth.

      I am done with you.

    1. I have no ads that promote guns and gun stores. If you've ever read any of my commentaries in the past, you will know that I am absolutely opposed to guns of all kinds, and if it was up to me, there would be no guns on the planet. That being said, I appreciate you advising me of any ads that you may have seen when you logged on to my site. The ads are controlled by Google and they appear differently on every person's computer. For some reason, Google seems to think that you have an interest in guns, based on other Websites that you have visited. I will contact Google and inform them that I do not want any gun ads to appear anywhere on The Controversy. I hope that you will return and read this response and that you will be a regular reader of The Controversy. Thank you. GBD

    2. To the reader who advised me about the gun ads. I have contacted Google and all gun ads have been blocked and will not appear on The Controversy. If you see any that slip through, please advise so I can have them blocked too. But I have had all gun ads or gun related ads blocked. Thank you. GBD
