Unless the Electors of the Electoral College vote on Monday, December 19th, 2016 to change the outcome of the November 8th election - which is possible, but probably unlikely - we, as Americans will be stuck with a man sitting behind The Oval Office desk...who clearly lacks the temperament...the credentials...and the demeanor...to take the Presidential Oath of Office...and be handed the keys to The White House on January 20th, 2017.

Donald Trump's warped thinking...and his offensive behavior...are inconsistent and inappropriate to that which our country stands for...and unsuitable to what most Americans envision as the model for our nation's President and Commander-In-Chief.  Let me remind you that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by nearly three-million votes.

Donald Trump is dangerous and hateful.  He is unfit to serve as the leader of the United States...and the leader of the free world.  On top of all that...Trump is assembling one of the most corrupt, depraved, perverted and wicked administrations in modern American history.  Therefore...it is apparent to me that the citizens of our country - Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike - are going to look back on Election 2016 and question how 62-million Americans cast their ballots for Trump.  And...Americans are going to wonder how so many politicians - such as Paul Ryan, Reince Priebus, Rick Perry, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina, among others - who were either harshly insulted by Trump and/or in heated arguments with him during the campaign...later made the conscious decision to put their love of power...ahead of their love of country.

I do, however, have to respect Mitt Romney and give him a big round of applause for not willing to comply with Trump's reported requirement...that Romney publicly apologize for his past criticisms of Trump...in order for Romney to be seriously considered for Secretary of State.  But Romney refused.  The former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican nominee for President called Trump "a con man, a phony and a fraud" during the campaign.  But like the title of his best selling book... Romney told Trump...no apology.

I have come to the conclusion that some of our nation's Republican politicians - Romney not included - lack any backbone at all...and that they're nothing better than whores who prostitute themselves in order to achieve personal gain in what they think of as success...instead of standing up for integrity, values and the United States Constitution.  If this is what Americans have to look forward to...as future leaders of our country...then we are in big trouble.

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. Gary, you just don’t get it. The country had two candidates to choose from both with the highest unfavorable ratings in history and we had to make a choice. To most of us on the right Hillary Clinton was totally unacceptable, her terrible record as Secretary Of State, her positions on illegal immigration, giving illegal aliens citizenship, the second amendment, taxes, the scandals that seem to always follow the Clintons, and possibly the biggest fear was who she would pick for the Supreme Court, the list goes on and on. That left us with one choice, Donald Trump, not my first choice but on November 8th my only choice. I do agree with many of his policies, protect our border, build a wall, no refugees that cannot be FULLY vetted, lower taxes, less regulations, stronger military, repeal and REPLACE Obama care, an originalist Justice for the Supreme Court ,once again the list goes on and on. Is he a loose cannon, yes. Did he do and say things that were wrong, without a doubt. As I said he was not my first choice probably wouldn’t have been in the top 10. What it came down to was policy and Hillary Clinton’s policies are totally unacceptable and bad for America. I totally disagree with you about the Republican Party, by voting for Trump and now standing with him for his policies, not his personality, they are standing up for American integrity, values and the United States Constitution. In my opinion and millions of people on the right that felt that Hillary Clinton’s policies did not stand for American integrity, values or the US Constitution. I do not believe that Trump is a racist or unfit. The popular vote you talk about is meaningless our founders wanted a system that gave every State a say in picking the President. We have 51 elections for President not just 1 and every one of those elections mean something because of the Electoral College. Now on January 20, 2017 we need as Americans to support our President, no one expects the left to agree with him on much or vote for his policies but you and they should respect the office he holds and grant the office and title and the man that holds it the respect it deserves.

    1. Oh I do "get it." I get that my fellow Americans - 62-million of them - felt that it was better to elect a narcissistic, misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic, bigoted racist to be President of the United States instead of someone who would treat every American equally and not, as Donald Trump, who will only help the rich and not the so-called "middle-class" (which we really don't even have anymore) and the poor. All your other remarks where you say "the list goes on and on" are just smoke-filled, coffee shop crap. It's the general differences between a Democrat and a Republican...and I could have lived with those issues if Republicans had elected someone like Paul Ryan...or Mitt Romney...or Jeb Bush...or Marco Rubio...etc., etc. At least those men are decent, honorable Americans. I - and most other Democrats - did not have a problem with Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush or even George W. Bush when they first were elected. It wasn't until after they were elected that Democrats (and others) criticized Reagan, Bush 41 and Bush 43 (especially Bush 43 after 9/11). But Trump is a whole different animal...and I don't say this to be mean...or cruel...or simply to "name call"...but I - and millions of other Americans, including those with psychiatric and psychology degrees - have said...and truly believe...that Donald Trump is mentally unbalanced and unfit to serve the United States of America as President and Commander-In-Chief. As for your comments about Hillary Clinton...again...a bunch of smoke-filled, coffee shop crap. None of what you and Republicans have said about Secretary Clinton is true. But you can lie all you want about her. Unfortunately, that's politics. I certainly don't agree with that kind of politics, but our country is so polarized that I suppose that's the way it's going to be. But Trump is dangerously unfit to be sitting behind The Oval Office desk. For you to agree that Trump is "a loose cannon" and that he "do(es) and say(s) things that were wrong" yet you still voted for him is stunning...and amazes me to no end. Hillary Clinton's policies do, in fact, stand for American integrity, values and the U.S. Constitution. The popular vote should not at all be meaningless in the 21st century and the Electoral College should be abolished, as I have written about in previous columns, and I believe it will eventually be done away with...sooner rather than later. Donald Trump does not "deserve" any "respect" as President. GBD

  2. Gary, you still don’t get it. Nothing I said about Hillary is a lie, it is my opinion that she had a “ terrible record as Secretary Of State” as for her positions on immigration, giving illegal aliens citizenship, the second amendment, taxes and the Supreme Court are wrong for America. There are no lies there; they are how I and over 61,000,000 other American feel. You can’t deny that scandals always follow the Clintons; I’m not saying they are true or not true, just that they happen. Those problems with her made it impossible for me to vote for her, yes even over what you claim Trump is. Yes, her bad policies over rule him being what you claim a “narcissistic, misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic, bigoted racist” most of which is unproven and I believe not true. As for the Electoral College I believe it should be adjusted but not abolished, it gives residents in every state a chance to be heard, I believe it should be changed to Congressional districts not by state and the winner of each district gets one vote and the one who wins the most districts in a state should get the two extra votes.

    1. Oh, I do "get it." And your "opinion" about Hillary Clinton is not justifiable - with anything that you have written. Scandals are "defamatory talk and malicious gossip." Scandals are not necessarily fact, and in the case of Bill and Hillary Clinton, they are not true. After all the insults and other offensive behavior by Donald Trump since June 2015 - along with the Access Hollywood tape from years before - there is definitive proof and evidence that Trump is indeed a "narcissistic, misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic, bigoted racist." The Electoral College was created by the founders of our country because we were a nation of 13 states with hardly anybody living in our nation. With 325-million Americans in 50 states (plus the District of Columbia), the Electoral College makes no sense at all - for reasons I have discussed at length in a previous column. As for your "adjustment"...that is not acceptable either. The only fair way to elect the President of the United States is a popular vote...which eventually it will be that way. Watch and see. GBD

  3. Yes, I can justify my opinion, the Russian reset which was a failure, pushing a US friendly leader Mubarak out of power in Egypt was a mistake and a failure, the Iran nuclear deal a Bad Deal for America, pulling all troops out of Iraq against the advice of the Generals was a failure, Syria, Libya all foreign policy failures. All on her watch as Secretary of State. Even if Trump is all of what you say, which he is not, her bad policies are worse for America. Her wanting a liberal Supreme Court was the biggest thing to most conservatives. Mitch McConnell’s decision not to permit Obama’s choice for the Court to go forward I believe is why Trump is our next President. That’s what you don’t get, that more than 61,000,000 American’s are tired of the lefts policies, the taxes the regulations, tired of the leftwing crap like safe zone from free speech, government run health care and the list goes on and on. As for the Electoral College I guess you are in favor or disenfranchising more than 50% of the American population from the campaign process, without the Electoral College no candidate will campaign in places like Utah, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Iowa, Maine and about 25 other States.

    1. Let's end this here as I'm tired of debating someone who will never see the truth.

As President Obama has said over and over again, Hillary Clinton is one of America's greatest Secretaries of State. Republicans just don't want to acknowledge it.

The U.S. Supreme Court needs to be more liberal, not more conservative. And if Senator Chuck Schumer has his way, the U.S. Senate will never confirm any nominee that Donald Trump puts before them. All Schumer needs is to sway three moderate Republicans and no Supreme Court nominee will ever get confirmed. What Mitch McConnell did against President Obama's nominee of Merrick Garland was an absolute disgrace and Schumer is going to get back at Trump big time.

You just proved my truths that the Electoral College needs to be abolished and that elections should be decided soley on the popular vote. I can crush your comment that 61-million Americans (actually 62-million) who voted for Trump are "tired of the left's policies" by saying that 65-million Americans don't want the "right's" policies. Thus the popular vote candidate, Hillary Clinton, should be the winner. And in the eyes of all of us who are "never Trump" people, we will never, ever, ever recognize Trump as President. And all of you who say differently will realize and acknowledge in less than a year that he should never have been elected. And furthermore...as I have written in another commentary...Trump will likely be impeached, convicted and removed from office...or he will resign...before his term is over. As for your comment about the smaller states...that's ludicrous and I will not argue the point further as I wrote about it in an entire column earlier this autumn.

One more point...if you saw the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll today (December 19th, 2016), you'd see what I mean already. And don't criticize the poll because the Wall Street Journal is the premiere conservative newspaper in the country. That said, 54 percent of all Americans are pessimistic about Trump and have negative feelings about his Presidency. Plus, Trump's favorable rating has plummeted to 40 percent. That equates to millions of Americans who voted for Trump on November 8th who now feel they have made a "huuuuuuuuge" (to quote Senator Bernie Sanders) mistake in casting their ballots for Trump.

      We are done!

  4. You still don’t get it. Hillary Clinton was to me and most of the GOP TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE who else was running? Donald Trump. As for President Obama saying she was “one of America's greatest Secretaries of State” means nothing coming from a President whose Foreign Policy she ran, has been a total failure for the past 8 years. As he has been as a President in most areas. As for the Supreme Court it needs to be more originalist if you want to call that conservative that’s okay, I call more constitutional! I don’t think Schumer will be successful in blocking a Supreme Court Justice and we will get one that will do his or her job as intended, applying the Constitution not interpreting it. The Court for too long has been interpreting and we need to get it back to what it should be doing. I don’t think Trump will be impeached or resign and feel if he does what he campaigned on he will be our President not for just 4 years but 8! Learn to deal with it. As for your comments that millions of those who voted for Trump now feel they made a mistake is laughable. The poll you quoted is based on all America, but only 57.2% of eligible voters voted. So those of us that make up the 62,000,000 that voted for him would do it again in a heartbeat. Especially against Hillary Clinton.

    1. LMAO!!! LOL!!! LOL!!! LOL!!! You've got me in stitches with your hilarious, yet horrendous remarks. But as I said before...we are done here.

However, here are the final words. I can certainly understand a Republican not wanting to vote for a Democrat, but for a Republican...or any American...to vote for Donald Trump is total insanity. President Obama will be ranked by historians as one of the greatest Presidents of the United States...and Hillary Clinton was indeed an outstanding Secretary of State. You're a Republican and a hater so you certainly will never give a favorable word for the President or Secretary Clinton. What a shame. But for you to say President Obama "has been a total failure for the past 8 years" is not only laughable, but ludicrous. And certainly not true. Even Republicans in the House and Senate would never make a statement like that.

Senator Schumer will block every Supreme Court nominee. Count on it. That is unless Donald Trump picks someone who is not going to go against any Democratic values. Otherwise...forget it. We will end up with an 8-member High Court for the next four years. And it will only be four years because Trump will only last one term in The White House. A Democrat will move in on January 20th, 2021. Count on that too. So learn to deal with THAT.

You can't spin the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll just the way you want to...it doesn't work. Trump's numbers are plummeting and soon will be in the cellar. If the election was held tomorrow, Hillary Clinton would not only win Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (to therefore win those electoral votes and the Presidency), but she would win other states too. Independents - and yes, some Republicans - are already talking about the grave mistake they made by voting for Donald Trump.

As I said...we are done here.
