December 2016 just happens to be that rare year when both Christmas and Hanukkah fall on the same day. The first night of Hanukkah - when Jews light the first candle of the menorah - was Saturday night, December 24th...which was also Christmas Eve night. And today, Sunday, December 25th...is Christmas Day...the first day of Hanukkah. So Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah.
Let us hope that this...coming together...of these two hallowed holidays for Christians and Jews...is a beautiful sign - a good omen, if you will - in the hope that people of all faiths...all races...all ethnic heritages...all nationalities...and all political persuasions...can also come together...with a desire to work together...live together...and care for each other.
But such efforts must be a two-way street with all concerned. Let us pray that we, as a nation...and that we, as a world...can achieve this goal...and that this holiday season will be the beginning of happiness and love always for all Americans and for all others on the planet Earth...and that 2017 will be a healthy, safe and prosperous year filled with peace around the globe. And may God bless everyone.
I, therefore, forgo my usual "Controversy" sign-off...to the following word.
Amen.
I'm Gary B. Duglin.
