TRUMP CROSSES THE LINE OF DECENCY AGAIN

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

I had planned to publish a post-Democratic Convention commentary today, but I have postponed that column in order for me to discuss a more pressing issue.

There is always a straw that breaks the camel's back...and this time...the straw is a Gold Star Father and Mother...and the camel...is Donald Trump.  The question is...will Trump's latest act of venomous verbiage actually be destructive enough so that his supporters will run as far away as they can from him?

For more than a year, the American people have been horrified by atrocious attacks and inhumane insults by Donald Trump...on everyone from Mexicans to Muslims...from women to the disabled...from a federal judge to a Vietnam War hero...and many others.  Each time I thought that Trump's voters would finally realize the wickedness and evil of the billionaire businessman...to my amazement, Trump remained Teflon protected from every reprehensible remark that spewed maliciously off his toxic tongue.

But now...I think the Trump bandwagon may have crashed and burned to the point that it may end up scorched and smoldering in to overdue demise.

How dare Donald Trump compare "work(ing) very, very hard" as "sacrifices" when Khizr Khan and his wife, Ghazala Khan are living through the ultimate sacrifice - the death of a child - the death of their soldier son.

Trump told ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos on his Sunday, July 31st This Week broadcast that "I think I've made a lot of sacrifices" because "I've created tens of thousands of jobs" by building "great structures."  Does Donald Trump have no decency whatsoever in his bones?

Since Khizr Khan's powerful lecture to Donald Trump...from the podium of the Democratic National Convention...the Republican nominee for President has been on the defensive against Mr. Khan.  Instead of showing compassion...Trump raged disrespect towards Mrs. Khan.  He told George Stephanopoulos, "If you look at his wife, she was standing there.  She had nothing to say.  She probably maybe wasn't allowed to have anything to say.  You tell me."

This is a Gold Star Mother...who - for the rest of her life - will suffer pain from the loss of her son.  This is a Gold Star Mother who is immensely proud of the unselfish bravery that her son performed...in order to save the lives of his troops.  And yet, because she has high blood pressure...and remained silent so to not become emotional as she stood next to her husband on the convention stage... Donald Trump was callously critical of her.

Donald Trump is a cancer on the body of our nation.  I have been nauseated and disgusted by Trump's offensive behavior throughout all of Campaign 2016...but now, hopefully, his supporters...those with a conscience...will feel the same way.

Donald Trump has crossed the line of decency again...and it just may be the line that will erase any chance he may have had...(if there was any chance at all)...of beating Hillary Clinton on November 8th.

For those of you who did not tune in to watch the Democratic Convention on Thursday, July 28th...or who have been on a deserted island since then...Khizr and Ghazala Khan are the parents of an American hero who earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.  U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan was 27 years old when he was killed in 2004 by a bomb in Iraq.  Captain Khan had ordered his men to stay back while he investigated a suspicious vehicle.  His father - Khizr Khan - on Day 4 of the Democrats' Philadelphia convention...expressed tremendous pride when he told the nation that they are "patriotic American Muslims with undivided loyalty to our country."  But that, "if it was up to Donald Trump, (our son) never would have been in America.  Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims."  And then ...with words that have impacted the world...Mr. Khan made this pointed inquiry.  "Donald Trump...you are asking Americans to trust you with their future.  Let me ask you...have you even read the United States Constitution?"  At that moment, the convention erupted with applause and cheers.  And then came this.  "I will gladly lend you my copy."

When Khizr Khan took a pocket-sized booklet of the Constitution from his suit jacket...he tore the house down with exuberant excitement.  Mr. Khan continued with..."In this document...look for the words...'liberty' and 'equal protection of law.'"

As everyone is well aware...Donald Trump - for quite some time - has wanted to ban Muslims from entering our country.  As such...Mr. Khan asked..."Have you ever been to Arlington Cemetery?  Go look at the graves of brave patriots...who died defending (the) United States of America.  You'll see all faiths, genders and ethnicities.  You (Donald Trump) have sacrificed nothing...and no one.  We cannot solve...we cannot solve our problems by building walls...sowing division.  We are stronger together.  And we will

keep getting stronger when Hillary Clinton becomes our President."  I truly agree, Mr. Khan.

Trump's diabolical actions - following Mr. Khan's speech - are inexcusable and repugnant.  Shame on any American that still wants to vote for someone so repulsive.

Two high ranking Republicans - Speaker of the

House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell - have sided with the Khans...and without mentioning Donald Trump's name...basically condemned the GOP nominee.  Speaker Ryan's words speak for themselves.  “Many Muslim Americans have served valiantly in our military, and made the ultimate sacrifice.  Captain Khan was one such brave example. His sacrifice...and that of Khizr and Ghazala Khan...should always be honored. Period.”

In response to Donald Trump...Khizr Khan told CNN anchor Jim Acosta on the Sunday, July 31st State of the Union telecast that "(Donald Trump) is "the height of ignorance" and that he is "total(ly) incapable of empathy."  Mr. Khan called Trump "a black soul" who "is totally unfit for the leadership of this beautiful country."  I wholeheartedly agree with you, Mr. Khan.

But despite an appeal for a Trump apology by armed forces veterans nationwide...and by Americans of all political persuasions...Donald Trump continues to accuse Mr. Khan of "viciously" tormenting him.  Don't you have that backwards, Donald?

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. The problem we have is that we have two candidates to pick from both with major flaws, one Trump maybe “repugnant” to use your words, he maybe a bully in some ways, he may be nasty when he is attacked but I believe he is honest, I believe he has the best interest of this county and it “CITIZENS” at heart, I believe we need a wall to protect our boarders, we need to ban all refugees until we can fully vet them, we need someone who will put America first. As for the other candidate Hillary Clinton, she is a liar, she was maybe the worst Secretary of State in decades, she and the rest of the left will play the gender card, the race card, the gay card, every card they can to divide America, in a time when AMERICANS need to be united, not illegal aliens, not un-vetted refugees but Americans, she is dishonest and untrustworthy, she will do anything to enrich herself and gain power, her goals are to redefine the US Constitution and this country in time that we need to standup for our Constitution and live up to its laws. She is more concerned about her legacy and her place history then she is about America or its legal “CITIZENS”!

  2. Since your comment above was left anonymously, I don't know if you're the same person who wrote remarks today on an earlier column. But you sure do sound like that reader. But in case you're not, I'm going to say the same thing I said to him or her. You must really hate, hate, hate Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party and people - such as me - who are liberal progressives. You truly must hate what we stand for and believe in...which, of course, I feel is right for our country. Donald Trump is a cancer on the body of our nation. He is totally unfit to be the President of the United States and, as President Obama stated today, Trump "keeps on proving it." And Trump does continue to prove it day after day. The President says Trump is "woefully unprepared" to be the leader of the free world. And he is unprepared. As for Hillary Clinton - she is totally qualified, absolutely fit and ready to be our President. Republicans have no clue as to what Democrats want...or you just don't care and, therefore, make up stories. Otherwise, you wouldn't make the false statements that you wrote above. Democrats do not want to "redefine the U.S. Constitution" and it is nauseating when people like you make such bogus remarks. Hillary Clinton cares more about our country than most people and therefore she is more concerned about the people of our nation than - as you want to wrongfully believe - "her legacy and her place in history." The lies that you and other Republicans want to venomously spew are disgusting. Hillary Clinton is trustworthy and she has and will continue to do - when she is President - everything possible to unite our nation. Unfortunately, it is the Republicans - and obviously people like you - who say the things you do - which adds to dividing America. Think about what I've said. You'll see that agreeing with me will make you happy. GBD

  3. No name calling. But if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck then...as the saying goes...it MUST be a duck. What your Republican Party nominee says and does is HATE. And since Republicans - including yourself - continue to support Donald Trump - which I hope you still do because he is going to implode his campaign and lose in such a landslide to Hillary Clinton that it Republicans will be scratching their heads on November 8th in disbelief. Or - if their smart - Republicans should just give up and not worry about 2016 and start thinking about 2020. Not that that will matter since Hillary will win again in 2020. So my suggestion is to think about 2024. But, of course, 2020 is what Republicans should be looking at...and forget about 2016. You personally may not hate...but Donald Trump does. GBD
