DIARRHEA OF THE MOUTH FROM TRUMP, PENCE AND CONSERVATIVE TALK RADIO

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

My media career - as a journalist, writer and broadcaster - goes back more than four decades.  And in all that time, I've never been as nauseated by certain members of my industry than I have been this year.

Conservative talk radio hosts and some Republican-identified television commentators are spewing toxic tall tales and venomous lies about Hillary Clinton.

As any journalist...I support the First Amendment of the United States Constitution...especially the right that it gives people of my profession - or any American for that matter - the freedom to express ourselves openly.  Freedom of Speech...freedom to articulate our thoughts and publish our written views...are our nation's most important liberties.  That is why our "Founding Fathers" included such a right in the First Amendment.  But it disturbs me...and aggravates me to no end - especially during a Presidential election year - when specific individuals...whose names I will not mention in this column...take to the airwaves...and viciously verbalize disgusting falsehoods.  When these cold-blooded colleagues of mine...get behind their radio microphones...or go in front of their television cameras...and maliciously malign the outstanding leadership

performed by President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, among others...it - in plain English - pisses me off.

I have no personal issues with the average Republican citizen...or other Conservative...whose political beliefs are different than mine.  I respect their right to an opinion - whether it be on gun control, abortion, gay rights, raising the minimum wage or any other controversial matter - even though I don't agree with their thinking.  After all, they are Americans too...and they are entitled under the Constitution to believe as they so desire.  But when these voters are influenced by the bogus diatribes that a select amount of so-called journalists

and political analysts are regurgitating from their mouths...day after day after day...it makes me sick...and it did so on Friday afternoon, August 5th, 2016 when I literally couldn't listen anymore...to "the enemy" on the radio.  Those trouble-making talking-heads have sunk deeper in to the bottom of the barrel - as have Donald Trump and his callously cruel cronies - to the point that John and Jane Q. Public have ended up repeating the despicable drek that has been spoken or written by the Conservative columnists, commentators and hosts.

On Thursday, August 4th, the Trump Campaign posted a YouTube video - and subsequently Trump and his running mate - Indiana Governor Mike Pence - insisted that Hillary Clinton said something that she clearly did not say.  And in an effort to be even more deceitful...the Republican Vice Presidential Nominee outright lied while at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday, August 5th.  "If you listen carefully to Hillary Clinton...she'll tell you exactly what she thinks.  She was in Omaha, just the other day, and she actually said out loud...'We are going to raise taxes on the middle class.'"

That is NOT what Hillary Clinton said...and Governor Pence should be ashamed of himself because he knows quite well what word was uttered by Secretary Clinton.

I have watched the video...and listened to the audio...no fewer than a dozen times...and to my ears...the Democratic Nominee for President clearly declared, "I'm telling you right now.  We're going to write fairer rules for the middle class...and we aren't going to raise taxes on the middle class."

That's right.  Hillary Clinton said... AREN'T...as in...ARE NOT.

But because a contraction sometimes isn't enunciated perfectly...by more people than just Mrs. Clinton...the Trump Campaign did what Donald Trump is so good at doing...lying.  Trump, Pence and their campaign have once again crossed the line of decency.  And because THEY did...Conservative Talk Radio hosts jumped on to the bandwagon and made it even worse.

It is so obvious to me that Secretary Clinton said..."aren't going to raise taxes on the middle class"...which, of course, everyone knows has been her mantra throughout her entire run for The White House.

That being said...the Trump-Pence Campaign - including the nominees themselves - plus all of Conservative Talk Radio...knew "exactly" - to use Governor Pence's word - what Mrs. Clinton actually was communicating.  In spite of that...Trump, Pence, et al...thought they'd get away with making up another fabrication...another falsehood...so to wrongfully bash the Democratic Nominee.  They all knew damn well that Secretary Clinton doesn't want to raise taxes on the middle class.

So here's my recommendation to Hillary Clinton - if I may respectfully do so.  Since Donald Trump...Mike Pence...their campaign advisers...and the broadcasters of Conservative Talk Radio...are wickedly evil towards Mrs. Clinton - Madam Secretary... don't use contractions when you're making a speech.  I realize, Secretary Clinton, that is something you should not have to do...but when you're dealing with the diabolical hatred of people like Trump, Pence, conservative talk show hosts and others...please don't give them any dishonest ammunition to fire at you.

I have no problem with anyone in our country sharing opposing views on the radio...on television...on the Internet...or in newspapers and magazines.  But when they deliberately lie...and tell Americans that Hillary Clinton used a word that she absolutely didn't - or should I say...did not - well, it's not only repugnant...it's reprehensible.

It's bad enough when Donald Trump and Mike Pence expel political diarrhea of the mouth...but when journalists - or at least those who claim to be journalists - get on their high horses...and convince their listeners and viewers...of something that never happened...these broadcasters don't deserve to be on the air.

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. The media is so liberally biased. CNN(Clinton News Network), NY Times, Washington Post, ABC, NBC, and CBS to name a few. I believe in freedom of speech but the major media networks should fairly and accurately relay events but they are extremely coorupt and dishonest. They target non liberals and cover up for Hillary Clinton's corruption and outright lies.

    1. Don't you think you've got that wrong, Johnny. As I stated in my column, it's the Conservative Talk Radio hosts and Republican-identified TV commentators/columnists who are biased. The networks and newspapers you referenced above are not at all corrupt or dishonest...and they certainly don't "cover up" - as you seem to think - for Hillary Clinton. In fact, I've been amazed recently of certain correspondents from one or more of the networks you mentioned, who have wrongfully slammed Secretary Clinton. Despite what you may think, there has never been any evidence or proof that Mrs. Clinton has done anything "corrupt." And there has never been any evidence or proof that she has "outright lie(d)." There is proof, however, that Donald Trump has done both. GBD
