The mystery of who a Presidential nominee will pick to be his or her running mate is always a question on the minds of voters...especially as the campaign approaches the Democratic and Republican Conventions.
After a great amount of research and much
consideration...here is my pick for Hillary Clinton's Vice President. He's
Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio.
Senator Brown would be the
best choice...and the wisest choice...over any other person on the so-called "Short List"
of possible veeps...or of any "dark horse" whose name could appear in the next several days.
Mrs. Clinton has said all along that she wants a Vice
President who could - if it was God-forbid necessary - step in as President and
Commander-In-Chief. Brown is certainly qualified. He's a graduate of Yale
University and holds two master's degrees - one in education and one in public
administration...so he's intelligent. Brown has been elected to the U.S. Senate
twice after serving 14 years as a Representative in the House. He was also
Ohio's Secretary of State and served 8 years in the Ohio House of
Representatives. To top it all...he is a longtime public servant who has never
been involved in any scandals. And in today's world...that's
refreshing.
Senator Brown is known for being a true progressive liberal -
which should bring smiles to the supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders...some of which, unfortunately, have not yet stood behind Mrs. Clinton.
As most everyone is aware...Ohio is a critical swing state. Since 1964, no Democrat
has received the keys to The White House without winning Ohio...and furthermore...no Republican has ever been
elected President without capturing "The Buckeye State" on election day.
Brown is
electable as Vice President because he is loved in Ohio...and Democratic and Independent voters, I
believe, will support him 100%. In fact, he may even sway some Republicans to cast their ballots for Clinton/Brown.
Senator Brown has great popularity because he is truly likeable.
He would bring in the needed votes from the big cities of Columbus and Cleveland
including the surrounding areas of their counties. And despite the fact that historically
most people don't give any weight to the Vice Presidential candidate when making their decision as to who should be President...with this year's campaign being dissimilar from all others...the
running mate might be more crucial this time around. That's not to say that the former Secretary of State won't become our 45th President without Senator Brown. I'm not implying that at all. As I have stated for more than a year...I am completely confident that Mrs. Clinton will be our next President...and she will defeat Donald Trump in a landslide victory. But a Vice President Sherrod Brown would be a perfect partner for a President Hillary Clinton.
Senator Brown is known for being someone who always looks out
for the working class American. He would bring support by the labor force, as
organized labor has backed him time and time again. Brown also has had a first-class record on the Banking,
Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and, as such, always has his eyes on the big
banks; an issue that would also be beneficial to Mrs. Clinton.
And although Senator Brown and Secretary Clinton have conflicted with their views, in the past, on trade...Mrs. Clinton has moved
towards Brown's perspective...whereby they are now more in agreement on trade
policies.
I could outline and explain further...the rationale of why Sherrod Brown is the person that Hillary Clinton should select as her running mate, but above are just a handful of the logical reasons. A Clinton/Brown ticket would be unbeatable on November 8th.
Now I do realize that some people feel that Secretary Clinton won't
choose Senator Brown because, by becoming Vice President, that would leave a Democratic
Senate seat vacant for Ohio's Republican Governor John Kasich to then choose
Brown's replacement...and that could be the difference in a Democratic majority in
the Senate. However, it's more important, at this point, for Mrs. Clinton
to be elected President. That has to be her priority. I think her coattails, in any event,
will be long enough so Democrats will resume majority in at least one chamber on Capitol Hill.
And even though Senator Brown has emphatically expressed that he has no interest in...and really doesn't
want...the job of Vice President...let me remind everyone of another Senator who
made a similar statement 8 years ago. Joe Biden told everyone he had no desire
whatsoever of being "Number Two." The bottom line is...if Hillary Clinton wants
Sherrod Brown...and asks him to be her running mate...he'll say yes.
And that's The Controversy for today.
