written at the bottom of this column. Thank you.
If there was any chance of Donald Trump beating Hillary Clinton for President - which I have never, ever thought, but others obviously have - then thanks to Libertarian Presidential candidate, Gary Johnson, and his running mate, Bill Weld...to anybody that still thinks Trump could win The White House...well...I have a bridge to sell them.
The Libertarian campaign is the greatest news for Liberals, Progressives and all Democrats. And the so-called "Never Trump" movement of Republicans and Conservatives - who had no intention of voting for the billionaire businessman anyway - now has an alternative choice in the general election on November 8th. I do, however, remind Republicans and Conservative Independents - in fact, all Independents...and naturally, Democrats - that former Secretary of State Clinton is still the United States' best option to keep America great...and to make it even better.
All that being said...the Libertarian nominees will join Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump - along with their running mates - as their names will be on the ballots in all 50 states. And although Libertarians generally promote themselves as "classically liberal," but "fiscally conservative"...their party's platform, therefore, does not fit the bill of today's Democratic Party, which is "modern liberal," "progressive" and not at all what would be considered "conservative."
Gary Johnson and Bill Weld are former Governors - Johnson of New Mexico and Weld of Massachusetts - and both were Republicans who won't likely be attracting many - if any - Democrats. In fact, Governor Johnson's Website advises voters that - while in office - he was "referred to as the most fiscally conservative Governor in the country."
What the Libertarian candidates will do is take votes away from Donald Trump... by Republicans nationwide...who may have supported the GOP's presumptive nominee, but now might prefer Johnson and Weld.
Despite the fact that in 44 years, the Libertarian Party has never received more than 1.06 percent of the general election votes, some political pollsters are predicting that Johnson and Weld will receive considerably higher numbers because of Republicans who will not cast their ballots for Trump.
It is true that the Libertarian Party supports such Democratic Party policies such as same-sex marriage rights, but Libertarians want to put an end to welfare and they are not advocates of a gun control law that Democrats desire. Those are just a couple of reasons - of the many - why I can't believe any true Liberal Progressive Democrat or Independent would vote for Gary Johnson for President.
The Libertarian nominees will - in this year's political campaign - be a factor in...and affect the outcome of...Election 2016. But I remain as confident as ever that Hillary Clinton will be elected the 45th President of the United States. As for Donald Trump... stick a fork in him. He's done, done, done.
And that's The Controversy for today.
