With Donald Trump winning the Indiana Primary on Tuesday, May 3rd and Ted Cruz suspending his campaign following his loss in "The Hoosier State," the thought of a contested GOP
convention is dwindling. And unless John Kasich finds a genie in a bottle or a miracle from God, the likelihood is...Trump will rack up the 1,237 delegates needed to win the Republican nomination for President. So - if that becomes a reality - will Cruz supporters start stumping for the billionaire businessman? Or - as some GOP "foreign policy establishment politicians" have expressed they might do - will there be a surprise onslaught of Cruz Republicans nationwide...who will vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the general election on November 8th? If none of the above...will those Americans who wanted the Texas Senator to be President...simply stay home...and not cast their ballots at all?
As a Democrat - and one who has always had the back of Mrs. Clinton - I vigorously and enthusiastically welcome Cruz advocates to throw their endorsements to the former Secretary of State.
Also as a Democrat...and one who - for more than a year now - has promoted Hillary Clinton in her campaign for President...I nevertheless felt very bad for Senator Cruz...on the morning of May 3rd...long before he was defeated by Donald Trump that night in the Indiana Primary. It was shockingly troubling to hear that Trump discharged more viciousness...with disgraceful accusations...that Cruz's father was with Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963...and, therefore, insinuating that the Senator's dad was somehow involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. "I mean, what was he doing?" Trump asked during a Fox News interview earlier in the morning of May 3rd. "What was he doing with Oswald...shortly before the death? Before the shooting? It's horrible."
What's horrible is Trump echoing a report that was published in a rag newspaper. Trump's actions are despicable and deplorable. I won't even mention the name of the tabloid, as I refuse to give it any publicity whatsoever.
With all the venom and vulgarity that Trump has spewed over the last year...I am astonished that so many Republicans throughout our great nation...continue to embrace someone...who erupts with such horrors and hatred. That - in and of itself - pains me to think...that there are millions of my fellow Americans...who would want such a person to become the leader of the free world.
As many of you will recall...I tagged Donald Trump a "superstar" - in June 2015 - after he announced his candidacy. When most of the media seemed to be so certain to..."stick a fork" in the real estate mogul's belly and call him "done" by summer's end...I said Trump was not going anywhere anytime soon. However...I never thought he would come as far as he's gotten.
For Bernie Sanders Democrats...some Independents...and non-Trump Republicans...I want to believe that "when push comes to shove"...even though you may not have been in favor of Hillary Clinton from the get-go...that your choice for President will be the former New York Senator. If you don't want to lose Roe vs. Wade...it is imperative that you vote for Mrs. Clinton. After all...with the likely possibility that three seats on the U.S. Supreme Court will become vacant during the first term of our next President...I think that should be a major factor when deciding who should occupy The White House beginning on January 20th, 2017. Therefore, I remain confident - even more than ever - that Secretary Clinton will wipe the floor with Donald Trump's hair...and she will be elected the 45th President of the United States.
As this political blizzard gets stormier...Hillary Clinton is going to hail triumphantly. But for Republicans who are so sure that Donald Trump can overtake Mrs. Clinton in the election of 2016...for that, I say...is a snowball's chance in hell.
And that's The Controversy for today.

Personally I think there is a better chance of Sanders’ followers backing Trump then Cruz followers going to Hillary. Cruz followers are Conservatives and Constitutionalist, Hillary is a leftwing liberal and does not back the constitution. Sanders is somewhat of an outsider and is anti-wall street. Hillary is bought and paid for by Wall Street and as Sanders said she is not qualified to be President
ReplyDeleteI totally disagree. No Democrat is going to vote for Donald Trump. No Democrat wants to lose Roe vs. Wade. And since Cruz supporters have expressed such a hatred for Trump, especially after Trump's attacks on Cruz's wife and his dad, I don't see Cruz supporters casting their ballots for Trump. Now will they stay home and not vote at all? That, of course, is a possibility. But since there are Republicans who don't have any faith in Trump's foreign policies, there just may be members of the GOP (politicians and voters) who endorse Hillary Clinton. As for your ridiculous comment that Hillary "does not back the Constitution" well, a remark like that isn't even worth my time to comment. Get serious, will ya? And, as far as Sanders comment about Mrs. Clinton not being "qualified" - that's political mumbo-jumbo, but he should never have said it. Obviously, as even Sanders himself has now said, "Of course Hillary is qualified." GBD
DeleteFirst off many polls have shown the somewhere around 20% of Sanders supporters would vote for Trump over Clinton. Second anyone who makes Roe v. Wade the major deciding factor in voting for President this year is very short sighted and I’m being nice. With the world the way it is today with ISIS and Islamic terrorism, the economy, Iran and Russia, I could go on, I would hope Roe v. Wade should be pretty low on that list. I am not a right-to-life or anti-abortion, I would like to see the need for it reduced as much as possible. I can’t believe I would say this but I also agree with pro-choice Harvard Professor, Constitutional expert and liberal Democrat Alan Dershowitz who said “Roe v. Wade was a terrible decision” he also said “the Court had no Constitutional basis in its ruling”. I believe that when the time comes Cruz and his supporters will indorse, support and vote for Trump. They will put away their hatred for him knowing that Clinton would be a disaster for Conservatives, the second amendment, religious freedom, the military and much more in this country. Anyone who is against the second amendment, religious freedom, the tenth amendment and stands behind all of Obama’s Unconstitutional acts in my opinion does not back the US Constitution.
ReplyDeleteDemocrats will all come together and support and vote for Hillary Clinton. And yes, one of the chief issues of this Presidential race is indeed the U.S. Supreme Court and a focus on Roe vs. Wade. For you to say that the issue of the Supreme Court is "pretty low on that list" just shows me the lack of knowledge you must have about this Election Cycle. Now don't go telling me that you said that "Roe v. Wade should be pretty low on that list" because one thing is the same as the other. It all has to do with perhaps 3 seats that will likely become vacant during the next President's first term. Since Donald Trump was disgustingly evil towards Ted Cruz - especially regarding Cruz's wife and his father - I don't believe that Cruz himself will be supporting Trump and, therefore, I then doubt that his voting public will do it either. Don't be surprised if Cruz runs as a Conservative Independent. For you to say that "Anyone who is against all of Obama's unconstitutional acts does not back the U.S. Constitution" is a despicable comment. First of all, Democrats support the Constitution. Secondly, President Obama's "acts" have all been allowed. President George W. Bush and numerous other Presidents have had many, many, many, many more Executive Actions than Mr. Obama. In fact, the percentages for Executive Actions and Executive Orders are overwhelmingly higher by Mr. Bush and other Presidents than by President Obama. GBD
DeleteLet's not dance around this. America racial issue is just under the surface. For the most part it lies dormant. Then some Bigot like Trump, simply peels away that top layer, fuel it with just the right amount of incendiary remarks & ignite that fiery Hatred.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how any Latino, any African-American, any American whose faith is Muslim or any woman, for that matter, could possibly support Donald Trump.
