WHY WOULD ANYONE VOTE FOR DONALD TRUMP?

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

Fact.  Donald Trump has made numerous offensive comments about women...thus - according to a recent CNN/ORC poll - 73 percent of all female voters will not cast their ballots for Trump.

In a 1991 interview with Esquire magazine, Trump is quoted as saying, "It doesn't really matter what the media write, as long as you've got a young and beautiful piece of ass."

In 2005 - on Howard Stern's radio show - Trump made this derogatory remark.  "A person who is flat-chested is very hard to be a 10."

In a 2015 interview with CNN - following a Republican Presidential Debate on FOX - Trump gave a distasteful description of FOX News anchor Megyn Kelly's disgust for the billionaire businessman.  "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes...blood coming out of her wherever."

Also in 2015 - in a Rolling Stone Magazine interview - Trump insulted former GOP candidate Carly Fiorina by saying, "Look at that face.  Would anyone vote for that?"

And earlier this year (2016), Trump told MSNBC's Chris Matthews in a Town Hall meeting that abortions should be "banned" and that there "has to be some form of punishment" for women who undergo the procedure.  Trump has since revised his thinking by stating that only doctors and others who perform abortions should "be held legally responsible...not the woman."  But that came only after Trump was chastised nationwide.  Therefore...how does he really feel?  I wonder.

So...why would any woman in the United States support Donald Trump?

Fact.  In his announcement - on June 16th, 2015 - that he was running for the Republican nomination for President...Trump harshly criticized our neighbors to the south.  "When Mexico sends its people...they're not sending their best.  They're bringing drugs.  They're bringing crime.  They're rapists."

And throughout his entire campaign, Trump has maintained that he will deport between 11-million and 12-million illegal immigrants...including families and children.

So...why would any Mexican-American citizen...any Latino...any Hispanic...or anyone from Spanish-speaking descent...endorse Donald Trump?  Well...the proof is in the numbers that they won't.  According to a recent poll by The Washington Post and Univision News...80 percent of all Americans who fit the aforementioned demographic will not choose Trump to be the next occupant of The Oval Office.

Fact.  Trump's alleged racist remarks do matter.  The real estate mogul infuriated African-Americans when - referring to Black Lives Matter - he told FOX News in 2015, "I think they're trouble."  And - in another 2015 FOX interview - Trump called a Black Lives Matter protester..."obnoxious"...and said, "Maybe he should have been roughed up."  Are these the words that so many Republicans really want to hear from someone they think should be President?

So...why would any African-American vote for Donald Trump?  Well - according to USA Today - not too many blacks across the country want to see Trump moving in to The White House.  The national publication says that six recent 2016 polls show African-Americans' favorable rating for Trump ranges only from 4 percent to 12 percent.

Fact.  In a 2015 interview on Meet The Press with Chuck Todd...Trump insisted he would keep the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour "pretty much where it is right now."  And - in another interview that year - Trump told MSNBC that "Having a low minimum wage is not a bad thing for this country." Now, though, that Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee...he's changed his tune by telling Chuck Todd on the May 8th, 2016 edition of Meet The Press that the minimum wage issue should be left "to the states."  It's interesting now that Trump is looking for support by the poor and middle-class that he's changed his point of view.  I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

So...why would anyone who doesn't earn enough money to simply make ends meet...fill in the circle next to Donald Trump's name on the general election ballot?

And how could any military veteran vote for Trump after he disparaged John McCain's war record?  Fact.  The Arizona Senator spent five years caged in a Vietnamese prison, but Trump - in 2015 - said, "He's not a war hero.  He's a war hero because he was captured.  I like people that weren't captured."

To summarize - based on the above facts - only wealthy Caucasian men should have any election affection for Donald Trump.  Wait a second.  If men who are rich have any feelings for all other people...then why would even they...say yea...for Trump?

Hillary Clinton - on the other hand - will be a President...of the people...and for the people.  The former Secretary of State will be a President whose concerns are for every single American - men and women, boys and girls - no matter the color of their skin or their ethnic heritage... whether rich, middle-class or poor...straight, gay or bi-sexual...Christians, Jews and yes, Muslims too (who Donald Trump wants to keep from entering our land of the free and home of the brave).  As the 45th President of the United States...Hillary Clinton will be everybody's President.

So...why would any American who cares for their fellow human beings...vote for Trump on November 8th?  After all the facts noted above...I'm confident that Hillary Clinton will beat Donald Trump...like a drum.

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. Your question is a very simple one to answer, “why would anyone vote for Donald Trump?” Let me start by saying I’m not a fan of how Trump has conducted himself throughout this campaign. I do agree with much of what he has said. But more importantly here is why I will be voting for Donald Trump: I could never vote for someone who wants to give 11plus million illegal aliens US citizenship, in a perfect world we could deport them all, but we don’t live in a perfect world so you could compromise and give them permanent legal status buy NEVER American Citizenship. Next I could never vote for someone who wants to take away my Constitutional right own and bear arms. I could never vote for someone who backs restricting religious freedoms guaranteed in the First Amendment by requiring religious organization and faith based organizations to pay for or support things that go against their faith. I could never vote for someone believes that the best answer to a problem is the Federal Government. I could never vote for someone who does not indorse the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution as it is written leaving most everything to the States. I could never vote for someone who would nominate left-wingers to the bench especially to the US Supreme Court. I could never vote for someone who wants to have more government give away programs. I could never vote for someone who supports a health care program – Obama Care that is bankrupting our health care system, costing most people more money, between premiums go up, higher co-pays and deductibles and lowering the quality and limiting access to quality health care. I could continue but I think you get my point. If there are only two viable candidates (a third party cannot win) and you can’t vote for one you must vote for the other. Is Donald Trump a perfect candidate, far from it, was he my first choice, not even in my top ten, is he better then Hillary Clinton: 1000% yes.

    1. Here are my answers to your reasons for YOU not voting for Hillary Clinton and why Hillary Clinton will be an outstanding President. First - the 11-million immigrants should never - and will never be - deported. Second - Stricter gun control laws need to be passed federally - and they will be by President Hillary Clinton and by what will be, at some point, during either her first or second term - a Democratic Senate and House. Third - The United States Supreme Court ruled that nobody can discriminate against any civil rights - most recently, gay rights. On Monday, May 9th, 2016 a law suit was filed against the State of North Carolina for a law that should never have been signed. Human rights, civil rights and freedom without discrimination is one of the foremost reasons that makes America great. Yes, we already are great. Fourth - Federal laws must overpower states. Fifth - I'll simply say the opposite to your comment and that is - I could and never would vote for someone who would nominate right-wingers to the bench, especially to the U.S. Supreme Court. It's time the highest court in the land get more true liberals on the bench - and with a President Hillary Clinton...that will be done. Sixth - America was built to help the poor and middle-class. Your comment about "government giveaway programs" is foolish. America was built so that the rich pay more so the poor and middle-class can merely live. Seventh - The Affordable Care Act does have its flaws, but it is certainly better than nothing. And it could have been better, but the Republican Congress wouldn't permit it so President Obama needed to compromise. President Hillary Clinton and a Democratic Congress will make it even better. Eighth - Hillary Clinton will probably be the second greatest President since President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The best President since FDR was President Bill Clinton - althought President Obama has been outstanding too, but President Bill Clinton was able to be better because he had cooperation by Republicans. But who knows? Maybe Hillary will be even better than Bill. GBD

  2. Gary, you said it better than me why every Republican, every American should vote for Trump. First 11 million people will not be deported even though they broke the law coming here, but they never should get the right to become US citizens. Second, you have said you want to see all hand guns taken away in total violation of the US Constitution. Third, the North Carolina law needs some tweaking, but I wouldn’t want my 14 year old freshman daughter being in a school locker room getting dressed when an 18 year old person with male plumbing comes out of the shower, it’s just not right. In schools you must go by what you physical body is, it’s about the plumbing. Fourth, the US Constitution must overpower federal law. Fifth, I didn’t say I want right-wingers on the court on want Constitutionalist. By just reading what you wrote here you do not believe in or respect the Constitution. Sixth, I don’t know who taught you your miss guided view of history; America was not built on the rich paying for the poor. That started with FDR, who may have been a great war time president, but his domestic programs kept America in depression, if not for WWII we would have been in depression for years longer. If he had followed Republican advice the country would have been in recovery by the mid-thirties. As for you statement about the Greatest President since FDR, the Greatest President in the 20th Century was Ronald Reagan. By reading what you wrote here and if your beliefs are representation of the Democrat party then none you respect, honor or believe in the US Constitution, almost everything you wrote in your reply contradicts that great document. If Hillary wins in my opinion it will mark the beginning of the end of this great country as we know it. The USA will still exist but we will move closer to being a socialistic nation with an over reaching and over powered Federal government without checks and balances. The exact opposite of what our founders wanted.

    1. Obviously I disagree with everything you wrote. I believe all that I have stated is accurate and true...as do most Democrats and the Democratic Party - all of whom, including me, "respect" and "honor" the United States Constitution. But as I have commented about on many occasions, the Constitution was written by our founders more than 200 years ago by great men, but by men who had no way of being able to predict the future. If, however, our forefathers had the proverbial "crystal ball" then I believe - as do others - that the U.S. Constitution would have been written differently. But what they did do was allow for Amendments. Thus, the Constitution was designed...to be changed. And that is why - over the years since 1787 - Amendments have been added to this great document. And it's time that more be made. You say that what today's Democrats think is "the exact opposite of what our founders wanted." I think - as do other Democrats - that if those men were around today - living with today's problems - they would have written certain parts of the Constitution...a bit differently. But since neither you nor I have a time machine, we can't go back to 1787 and ask them. We just need to do what we think is best for the people of our country in 2016 and beyond. GBD

  3. No, we must do what the Constitution says or amend it, period! What you think is right or wrong means nothing, it is what the Constitution and all of it's amendments says that counts. The 10th amendment is one of the most important and the left totally disregards it, because they do not respect or honor it as it was written. It is the true LAW OF THE LAND!

    1. The "true LAW OF THE LAND" has been amended many times in the past and certain parts of it needs and shall be amended again when hopefully Hillary Clinton is our President and we can regain a Democratic House and Senate. I think we're done on this issue. GBD

  4. Once again you don't know what your talking about, the President has NO roll in amending the Constitution. It must pass as a joint resolution of both houses of Congress and then be ratified by 38 states, that will never happen for guns or for any of the other un-constitutional things the left wants to do!

    1. You're the one who brought up the Constitution. A Democratic Congress can write and pass a common-sense gun control law and the President can sign it. It could ban certain guns even though the Second Amendment provides certain "rights." It's been done before and it will be done again. As for actual Amendments to the Constitution, I certainly am aware of how things are done. GBD

  5. Yes a Democrat Congress can by-pass the Constitution restricting law abiding Americans of their rights. As I said the left doesn't honor or respect it, so why not by-pass it.

    1. Enough already on this issue. Democrats and Republicans are never going to agree on this matter, so as I said above...I think we're done here. Yes, we're done. GBD

  6. People voting for Trump mostly are led by racist motivations enthralled with his celebrity status being mesmerized by him as the Entertainer now running for President is appeasing those voters that don't know or care about whether Donald Trump has the qualifications it doesn't matter to them! He's an "Outsider" without any political experience isn't problematic for Trump that's irrelevant to his supporters! They think the Donald will share his billions? with them and he'll create good paying jobs! NOT!

    1. I'm always amazed when I hear people on Conservative Talk Radio or elsewhere say that Donald Trump is going to make them rich. These individuals truly have no notion as to how our government works. It is impossible for Trump to do the things he is telling his supporters that he will do. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, will create realistic jobs for the middle-class and poor and she will get the minimum wage increased so that ALL Americans will be able to live their lives without having to work two and three jobs and still not have any money to eat properly. Secretary Clinton will help our country so there will not be any poor people. Hillary Clinton is America's best and only way for the United States to continue being great...and greater. Thank you for your comment. GBD

    2. You obviously didn't read my column clearly. If you had, you would not have made the statement about "Play(ing) the Race Card." I never said that the voters who back Donald Trump are "racists." I, of course, don't agree with any of your thinking. I believe that Hillary Clinton will continue keeping our country great - because we are great - and that Mrs. Clinton will make it even greater. As for President Obama - well, stand by for an upcoming commentary. Mr. Obama has in no way been - as you say - "destructive and unconstitutional." The President has been outstanding. GBD

  7. I did read your column but my reply was to the person who made the following statement “People voting for Trump mostly are led by racist motivations” he or she was playing the race card and you did not reply to it. As for your statement that “these individuals truly have no notion as to how our government works It is impossible for Trump to do the things he is telling his supporters that he will do.” Tell me why, President Obama has done whatever he has wanted to do, with or without congress or the law. We just had another Federal Judge rule against his unconstitutional acts. Maybe you should change the name from “the Controversy” to “God Bless Hillary, Queen of America” you seem to pray at her alter.

    1. I of course would never insinuate or assume that all Donald Trump supporters are "led by racist motivations" so I certainly don't agree with the statement made by an earlier reader, but when someone like Trump makes the racist statements that he has made about Hispanics and all Latinos, African-Americans, Muslims and others, and then voters still cast their ballots for Trump then that would seem to me that they agree with him - at least in part...or more than they agree with any other Republican candidate that ran this year. As the old saying goes, "If it walks like a duck...and talks like a duck...it must be a duck." But that still doesn't mean that all Trump supporters are going to support him for everything that he says or stands for in his campaign. Remember...only 40% of Republicans have voted for Trump. That's 40% of 30% (the amount of voting Republicans), which equals only 12% of the country. That means 88% of the United States have not supported Donald Trump. Not a whole hell of a lot of people when you think about it. And there are millions of Republicans who will not vote for Trump in the general election on November 8th. Remember Reagan Democrats? Well, there are now Clinton Republicans. As for your suggestion that the name of this forum be changed from The Controversy to "God Bless Hillary, Queen of America," I am no different with my support for Hillary Clinton as others may be for Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, or any of the other candidates that ran as Democrats or Republicans. I certainly don't - as you say - "pray at (Hillary Clinton's) alter." I do, however, believe at my core that she will be an outstanding and first rate President and Commander-In-Chief. And a President Hillary Clinton will continue keeping America great...which it is...and she will make it even greater. GBD
