It's disappointing in life when you discover that a celebrity - who you enjoyed watching on television for many years - turns out to be someone who, in real life, is a person who is nothing more than a foulmouthed vulgarian.
For 14 programming seasons over 12 years (between 2004 and 2015), I was a huge fan of NBC's The Apprentice and The Celebrity Apprentice. And one of the main reasons I never missed an episode of either series was because of a man who is now running for the Republican nomination for President of the United States of America.
The contestants - be them professional businesspersons or entertainment celebrities - were fun to follow, as they competed to win their tasks. But I looked forward every week to tuning in to see Donald Trump and his tough interrogation procedure in "The Board Room." Trump's trademark exclamation, "You're fired!" is one of the most popular phrases in television history.
So...it's a shame that this show-biz personality - who brought me such great joy as both a performer and executive producer - ended up being such an egomaniacal, narcissistic xenophobe.
Why then are so many Republicans nationwide supporting an individual who is as arrogant as Donald Trump?
Should the moms and dads of America educate the children of our country that it's okay to use offensive language? Should parents throughout the United States teach their kids that fighting with their peers and bickering like nasty little brats are permissible? The answer to both questions - if the mothers and fathers are decent adult human beings - is absolutely no.
Do Republicans - or, for that matter, any Americans...really want Donald Trump to be holding the nuclear codes?
The United States was built on the premise that everyone is welcome. The Statue Of Liberty made a home herself in America on an island in the Hudson River waters of New Jersey and New York in 1886. And since then, Lady Liberty's arms have been metaphorically wide open as she lovingly and affectionately
invites people of all races, religions and lands from afar to make the U.S.A. their home. Why then are so many Republicans agreeing with Donald Trump that 11-million immigrants should be deported? And why are Trump supporters on the billionaire businessman's bandwagon to ban any Muslims from entering our country?
I am a Jew. But I have heartfelt respect for Pope Francis. And I would never, ever do verbal or written battle with The Pope. This is not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing with religious beliefs. Donald Trump was clearly disrespectful to Pope Francis. So why then are Trump's advocates - some of which are likely to be Catholic...but most of whom are certainly Christian - continuing to think that he is "Presidential?"
And what about African-Americans? How would any black Republican endorse Donald Trump when the GOP candidate did not immediately repudiate and condemn the Ku Klux Klan? How would any American at all?
In nearly every campaign speech and debate, Donald Trump talks about his dedication and devotion for our military veterans - especially those who have returned from war with physical or mental impairments. So then why, in a press conference, did Trump visually mock a reporter because of his disability?
It boggles my mind to think that there are men and women throughout the United States...who are casting their votes for Donald Trump...many who are parents that are more than likely communicating to their youngsters...that it is perfectly acceptable to be insolent towards a Pope...to promote hatred towards people whose skin color, faith or ethnic heritage is different than him or her...to make fun of a person with a bodily abnormality...or to speak in an obscene, vicious and degrading manner.
Americans should want a President who is a Commander-In-Chief...as Hillary Clinton would be...not an Insulter-In-Chief...such as Donald Trump.
And that's The Controversy for today.

Let me start by saying I am not and have never been a big fan of Donald Trump. I have never seen a full episode of “The Apprentice” or “The Celebrity Apprentice”. He is not my first choice as my party’s candidate for president. Will I support him if he is the nominee, YES. You started your blog with a question but never tried to answer it “Why do so many republicans like Donald Trump?” Let’s start with some of your miss statements, Trump does not want to deport 11-million immigrants, he want to follow the LAW and have 11-million illegal aliens that broke American law coming here to be deported. As for your statement about the Statue of Liberty, it has never stood for open boarders, if fact we have had quotas from different countries for years and years and of course we had the Democrat Administration that turned away Jews in 1939. As for his disagreement with the Pope, if the main stream media had not edited and misinterpreted the Pope’s statements it may have never happened. To answers your question the American people that are voting for Trump are tired of the lies and the inaction and the bad deals our current politicians have made. You hold up Hillary Clinton as someone we should look up to and vote for. This is a person who wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped up and bit her, she has lied about Benghazi, and lied about her mail server, and all she does is lie. Her policies are opposite of what most republicans believe in. People want jobs not handouts, they want to be safe and have America on top. They want trade deals that are fair and help America, they want a Commander-in-Chief that will standup for America and not lead from behind. They want an American President that won’t turn their back on Israel and make a bad deal with Iran. They want a better America for their kids. They believe he will make America Great Again. I wouldn’t say America isn’t great but with President Obama and if Clinton had her way we are going in the wrong direction. Maybe he can make us greater! He is not my first choice but a much better choice than Hillary Clinton!
ReplyDeleteI did answer the question that my column's title asks. The answer is everything that I note in the body of my commentary. I won't even begin to debate with you regarding your comments about deporting immigrants, about The Statue Of Liberty or about The Pope. So untrue. As for Hillary Clinton, it always amazes me that Republicans insist that she lied about Benghazi or that she lied about the e-mail server. There has never been one ounce of proof that Hillary lied about anything. Republicans want to blame her for things that had nothing to do with her and she has so testified under oath to Congress. The truth is that Hillary Clinton has not and did not lie about anything. Your other remarks are just political back and forth rhetoric which is silly for me to even get in to with you. You apparently did not understand the crux of my editorial. It is summed up by the last two paragraphs. " It boggles my mind to think that there are men and women throughout the United States...who are casting their votes for Donald Trump...many who are parents that are more than likely communicating to their youngsters...that it is perfectly acceptable to be insolent towards a Pope...to promote hatred towards people whose skin color, faith or ethnic heritage is different than him or her...to make fun of a person with a bodily abnormality...or to speak in an obscene, vicious and degrading manner.
DeleteAmericans should want a President who is a Commander-In-Chief...as Hillary Clinton would be...not an Insulter-In-Chief...such as Donald Trump." If you read my column with an open mind, perhaps you will agree with it. But then again, you probably won't. GBD
First off you cannot debate my statements on deportation because they are the facts as are the ones about the Statue of Liberty, the FDR administration and the main stream media and the Pope. As for the laws on deportation you should read the “Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996”. It was signed into law by President Bill Clinton. As for Hillary all she does is lie, just check the Washington Post for her many Pinocchio’s. She lies every time she says her predecessor did the same with their emails. None of them ever had their own server in their house, she lies. She lied to Congress about Benghazi and her roll that led to 4 dead Americans. She lied to their families. All she does is lie! If her name wasn’t Clinton and we had an Attorney General wasn’t taking orders from the White House she would have been indicted already. I don’t know where you get the idea that he “promotes hatred towards people whose skin color, faith or ethnic heritage is different than him or her” the only group he has gone after was faith (Muslims) wanting to keep them out until we have away the vet them, so we here stay safe. Remember it was a Democrat President that went and had US citizens locked up in camps just because of where their grandparents came from (Japanese Americans)! To answer your question would I as a parent prefer an egomaniacal, narcissistic, I don’t believe him to be a xenophobe, as President over a person that lies about everything, put our country at risk with her emails, was the worst Secretary of State in decades (maybe second to John Kerry), yes I would take Donald Trump over her!
ReplyDeleteI refuse to debate this issue with someone who obviously is a "Hillary Hater." I stick by my commentary as fact. "Hillary Haters" want to blame Secretary Clinton on Benghazi and call her a liar. She should not be blamed and she did not lie. Mrs. Clinton did nothing illegal with her e-mails or with her server. For you to say that the Secretary would have been indicted if her "name was not Clinton and if the Attorney General was not taking orders from The White House" is a disgrace. You say, "I don’t know where you get the idea that he (Donald Trump) promotes hatred towards people whose skin color, faith or ethnic heritage is different than him or her...the only group he has gone after was faith (Muslims)." How about not condemning the Ku Klux Klan? That's a non-support of African-Americans...in fact of all Americans. And offending Pope Francis is disrespect towards all Catholics...and others - be them Christian, Jewish or others who respect The Pope. You have no clue of history with regards to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and your remark is completely false when concerning FDR's reasons concerning the Japanese during World War II. You're just a "Hillary Hater" and a hater of Democrats. Both Secretary Clinton and Secretary Kerry have performed superbly and Mrs. Clinton will do the same as President of the United States. GBD
DeleteGary, once again you show your true colors. When you can’t defend your position you turn to name calling: “Hillary Hater” “hater of Democrats”. I am not a hater; I don’t hate Hillary or hate Democrats. I do believe she has broken many laws and should be indicted, former US Attorney and former Mayor of NYC Rudy Giuliani has said if he was still a US Attorney he has seen enough evidence just in the public domain that he could and would have her indicted on as many as 15 criminal counts. As for my statements about FDR and Japanese Americans you need to read a history book. The US put Japanese Americans, people born in America into camps; yes it was out of fear that they may do something against the US. With no evidence and only because they were different we put 120,000 people in camps. Anyone who believes that Hillary Clinton and John Kerry have performed “superbly” in my opinion has no grasp on reality, her actions in Egypt gave us the Muslim Brotherhood in control for a while, the two of them gave us the Iranian nuke deal that will put billions of dollars into the hands of terrorist and do nothing to stop Iran, her poor oversight of the State Department security helped cause the death of 4 Americans. Not to mention their actions gave us the growth of ISIS. I could go on and on of all Clinton’s and Kerry’s diplomatic failures but you would never believe the facts anyway so why bother. I will close by just saying SHE LIES!
DeleteYour "hater" comments seem apparent to me. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck...well...it must be a duck. So you should be saying, "Quack, quack." Do you really think I'm going to take Rudy Giuliani's words as gospel? What a joke! It always amazes me when something from today doesn't go the way of a Republican, the past from way long ago is brought up. You think by tearing apart a President (FDR) who saved our country after the great depression and World War II validates the issues you have against our current President or a current Presidential candidate. Amazing! To bring up Benghazi again is ludicrous. There is no truth or proof that Hillary Clinton was responsible for the tragic deaths of four Americans. And ISIS grew out of al-Qaeda, which was the result of 9/11, which could have been avoided if President George W. Bush had listened to national security advisers. That is a fact. And don't say that I'm bringing up something from the past because it's recent past that has affected a great deal of our present. You continue to say that Secretary Clinton lies. You always seem to fall back on that. The fact is that Hillary didn't lie, hasn't lied and does not lie. She WILL make a GREAT President. GBD
DeleteOh and one more thing. My colors are "red, white and blue." Perhaps with a little more "blue." GBD
DeleteOnce again name calling, you do it well. No facts, just name calling. I don’t hate anyone but it is apparent you do. First off I didn’t tear apart FDR I stated a fact. Second you should read a history book, FDR didn’t get us out of the Great Depression, WWII got us out of it. Without the war FDR’s policies would keep us in depression for years and years. If he had done was he was advised to by the Republicans the country would have been out of it by 1936 or 1937. I give him credit he was a Great War time President but don’t give him credit for ending the depression. As for Benghazi her lax security policies and the State Department that she headed’ s un-willingness to give an Ambassador proper protection led to their deaths. And then she lied about it! As for ISIS it’s on her and Obama not Bush, talk about a hater, all the left can do is blame Bush and make up lies, you must really hate him. He did take many actions based on the intel they had prior to 9/11. On August 16, 2001 they ordered the FAA to issues an alert about "disguised weapons." told the FAA to be on the lookout for hijackers and deferent type items that could be used as weapons. August 23, 2001 he had the FBI, State Department, Customs and INS on alert looking for Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar. There were many other things done to hopefully prevent an attack of some sort. Those are all facts unlike the lefts lies they like to tell about President Bush. Unfortunately it did work and 9/11 happened. Just remember if you want to go back in time we can blame Bill Clinton for 9/11 if he had taken out Osama bin Laden when he had the chance maybe it wouldn’t have happened, I don’t blame him so don’t blame Bush for ISIS. And my colors are “red, white and blue” without any extra red because I’m an American before I’m a Republican, maybe the Democrats should think about that! And she is a liar!
DeleteI refuse to continue this line of communication regarding the issues being discussed as it is pointless to debate someone who does not have an open mind and apparently does not know history or the facts of issues. All you want to do is blame Democrats - be them President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Secretary Hillary Clinton and others for matters that are clearly untrue. You sound like a little kid on the playground who yells "liar, liar, liar." Hillary is NOT a liar. As for 9/11, if President George W. Bush had listened to Richard Clarke, the National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection and Counter-terrorism, 9/11 might have been avoided. Mr. Clarke sent a written classified memorandum - which I have seen a copy of - to Mr. Bush's National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice on July 4th, 2001 - more than two months before September 11th, 2001. If President Bush had paid attention to it, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center may be standing today and nearly 3,000 people who were killed in New York City, at The Pentagon and on three airplanes - may still be alive. GBD
DeleteI cannot continue this conversation since all you wish to do is spew venomous lies and hatred against President Bush. I have a very open mind to facts, you never wish to debate the facts, and you just claim they are wrong without any proof. You are the one with a closed mind and you are the one filled with hate towards anyone who doesn’t think the way you do! The facts are that President Bush did act on all creditable intelligence prior to 9/11 and your lies tell the truth of your hatred. You are probably one who still believes that Al Gore won in 2000 and you hate Bush for that. The fact that he won based on the Florida vote, by the rules in Florida and the rules setup in the US Constitution doesn’t matter to you. That’s right the left doesn’t believe in the Constitution! Truth be told about preventing 9/11 if Bill Clinton tried to get Osama bin Laden as hard as he did to get an intern on her knees maybe 9/11 wouldn’t have happened. Now you want Hillary, if Obama had listened to his Generals instead of Hillary ISIS would not be the powerhouse and threat they are today. Thank you Hillary Clinton and John Kerry! As I said before my colors are RED, WHITE and BLUE, no extra red because I am an American first unlike many democrats that put party before country. DONE.
DeleteI'm done listening - or reading - the venom you spew. I refuse to defend facts anymore with someone who clearly refuses to acknowledge them. At least I sign my name to my commentaries and any subsequent replies to readers. You continue to remain anonymous...which is fine. I welcome all comments whether signed by the writer or not. But here's my final reply to your opinions. Fact - President George W. Bush did not listen to Richard Clarke who had "credible intelligence prior to 9/11." Fact - Al Gore did win the 2000 election, but no...not actually allowing the former Vice President to be sworn in is not something I "hate Bush for." I don't "hate" anyone. But it was the United States Supreme Court who stole the Presidency from Al Gore. Fact - your comment is despicable about President Bill Clinton getting "an intern on her knees." Fact - Hillary Clinton had nothing to do with ISIS becoming a "powerhouse and threat." That would be al-Qaeda. And if President Bush had listened to Richard Clarke, there may have not been an al-Qaeda to attack on September 11th, 2001. And Fact - my colors are indeed Red, White and Blue. My earlier statement of, "Perhaps with a little more blue" was merely to declare that I am a proud liberal progressive Democrat. But I am an American first and your statement that I or any other Democrat "put(s) party before country" is a hateful remark. GBD
DeleteEvery legitimate group that did a recount on the 2000 election found that George W Bush won Florida. Even if the recounts showed different (but they didn't)it is too bad you don’t know the law, Florida statutes required that all counties certify and report their returns, including any recounts, by 5 p.m. on November 14. This statutes was passed by the Florida State Legislature years before the 2000 election in accordance with the US Constitution : Article II, Section 1: “ Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector”. Your statement that the Supreme Court “stole” the election is despicable! All the court did was to follow the law and the requirements of the Constitution. Anyone who believes differently is just wrong and maybe should read the Constitution. As for Richard Clarke and 9/11 you really don’t know what you’re talking about. As for ISIS it was President Obama who said they were just a JV team until his, Hillary and Kerry’s action and or inaction's turned them into biggest terrorist organization and the most dangerous one that we have seen! My statement about Bill Clinton was a fact and therefore not despicable, it was his actions in the Oval Office that were despicable!
DeleteI have nothing further to say on this matter except that your comments are laughable and without any truth to them. GBD
DeleteOnce again I’ll say you are uneducated on the law and the Constitution. Every statement I made is true and fact. You are incapable of disproving anything I said.
DeleteI certainly can, but at this point, I am done with this issue. Otherwise, we could go back and forth forever, which I have no interest in doing. But I can assure you that I am well-educated on all of the matters discussed. I do thank you, however, for all your comments, even though I disagree with you completely. GBD
DeleteAs much as I agree with everything you're saying Gary, you do not actually answer the question you pose in the title of your post. You talk about all of the terrible and idiotic things that Trump has said and claimed he would do, but you've actually theorized WHY, after all of those claims, so many Americans are putting their support behind Trump.
ReplyDeleteI have my own theories...
I do answer the question. It's a sarcastic question. And my commentary states why nobody should like Donald Trump as a Presidential candidate...and certainly not as a possible President...which I don't believe will happen as Hillary Clinton will win with a slam dunk if Trump ends up being the GOP nominee. I'm glad, however, that you "agree with everything" I'm saying in my column. So what are your theories? You did not say. GBD
