IT'S A DONE DEAL FOR HILLARY

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

It's inevitable now - especially after "Super Tuesday 2" - or as MSNBC tagged it, "Separation Tuesday" - on March 15th, 2016 - that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Party's 2016 nominee for President of the United States of America.

I realize that probably most Bernie Sanders followers will argue that...mathematically... the Vermont Senator can still win the nomination.  Theoretically...sure.  But in all rationality...no way.  With Mrs. Clinton's 5-state sweep on March 15th...as reported by NBC News - with wins in Florida, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio - for all intents and purposes, the overwhelming probability is that the former Secretary Of State has sealed the deal...locked the door...and will ultimately...and formally...win the nomination.  Senator Sanders would need to exceed by an amount better than Secretary Clinton has - for every state primary remaining - in order to beat her...and I don't think that is realistically possible.  After all, at last count - according to Bloomberg Politics - Mrs. Clinton has amassed 1,561 delegates - including "super delegates"...while Mr. Sanders only has 800.  And with 2,383 needed to clinch the nomination, the former Secretary Of State is closing in rather quickly.

I respect Bernie Sanders and those Democrats who have supported him throughout his campaign...and I congratulate him for his valiant and remarkable efforts...but that said... it's unlikely that Senator Sanders will immediately do what I suggested in my commentary after the March 1st "Super Tuesday 1"...and that is to "Say Goodbye."  But when that day comes, then Mr. Sanders and all those Americans who have backed him for President must unite...get behind Hillary Clinton...and vote for her on November 8th.

All Democrats... and all liberal and moderate Independents...need to come together... along with anybody else in our country who believe in keeping this great nation... great.  And despite what a certain Republican candidate may think...America is great...has always been great...and will remain great - and even greater - with Hillary Clinton as our 45th President.  And no matter who the GOP nominee is...come January 20th, 2017...Madam Secretary Hillary Clinton...will become...Madam President Hillary Clinton.

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. I agree Clinton will be the Democrat nominee, was there ever a question? The party decided she would win months if not years ago. The party which controls the super delegates said they will pledge to Hillary and therefore she will win, done deal. As for your statement about the US being great, yes we are great, I disagree with the GOP leading candidate, but we are not as great as we were. We have lost much of our moral compass, we have lost or are losing (if the Democrats have their way) many of our constitutional rights. We have been going downhill for years we don’t win, bad trade deals, bad treaties (the Iran Deal)we let Americans get pushed around all over the world even killed and do nothing. I am not a big fan of Trump but he would be a lot better for the country then a two faced liar that is being investigated by the FBI. Obama’s deals have been terrible for America and she will just double down on his bad and in many cases un-constitutional policies. How can she say she will not deport “any” illegal aliens unless they are caught doing a violent crime? A President swears to uphold all the laws of the United States, right now the law states that the punishment for entering this country illegally is deportation. How can she not uphold the law!

    1. I can respect your opinions about trade deals, treaties and the like. You have the right to your opinions as I do or anybody else does. However, it boggles my mind when Republicans continue to call Hillary Clinton a liar. Thankfully in the United States, there must be evidence to prove a person is guilty of any crime and there has not been any evidence of wrongdoing by former Secretary of State Clinton. The FBI is investigating the e-mail matter, but as has already been revealed by former Secretary of State, General Colin Powell and others in the federal government, they too used personal e-mail addresses for work. But, as Mrs. Clinton has stated and testified to, she never used her personal e-mail address for anything that was classified. Just because certain e-mails have years later been designated as classified is no fault of hers. Many of General Powell's e-mails are now being marked as classfied too when they were not when they were originally sent and received. As for deporting 11-million immigrants, that simply should never happen. Republicans need to read the poem on the plaque at The Statue Of Liberty. It reads as follows - "Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
      With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" See what it says - "Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me...I lift my lamp beside the golden door." Hillary Clinton as President will indeed "uphold all the laws of the United States." GBD

    2. The following is a comment that was posted on my Facebook page on March 16th, 2016 in response to my March 16th column, IT'S A DONE DEAL FOR HILLARY. The remarks will end with the writer's name, which he used on Facebook.

Gary, as a commentator you should be familiar with this line of thinking. It’s understandable that many Americans are currently reeling in disbelief about the rise of racism, sexism, and xenophobia during this presidential campaign. We progressives must take seriously the psychological and spiritual crisis of contemporary society. We must look at the pain, anger, and frustration that our society has engendered – because doing this would force us to ask questions about the need for a radical restructuring and to see how much we have in common with the people we love to disdain – the people who are drawn to racist and aggressive nationalist ideologies. It is urgent, then, for a united front against fascism to concentrate on a politics of meaning and a mass of compassion in order to resist the destructive possibilities of the coming decades. We must confront our own lives deeply, acknowledge our own pain, frustration, and vulnerability, and begin to understand the ways that these feelings are similar to the pains of many who describe the same experiences in right-wing language.
