THOSE FOUR WANT TO BE PRESIDENT?

After reading the commentary below, please express your own thoughts.  Instructions on how to do so are written at the bottom of this column.  Thank you.

The Republican Party should be nicknamed the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment)...or the WBA (World Boxing Association)...and not the GOP (Grand Old Party)...because there is nothing "Grand" about their candidates.  And I don't just mean because of their politics.

As a liberal, progressive Democrat, I can disagree with the ideas and policies of conservative Republicans, but still respect them as people - at least some of them.  But after their disgraceful appearances in the Saturday, February 13th, 2016 debate - broadcast live on CBS - four of the six remaining Republican candidates have no business seeking the nomination for President. Furthermore, if these men weren't competing for the highest office in our land, I would have thought that the Saturday night altercations would have ended up in a barroom-type brawl...or worse...a violent, rough-and-tumble dogfight.  And how ironic it was that this so-called "debate" was held at the Peace Center in Greenville, South Carolina.  After all, there was no "peace" among these candidates.  It was an all-out war with hateful words of vindictive venom being spewed at each other by Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

John Kasich and Ben Carson each made a valiant effort to communicate to their challengers to cut out their nonsense...as the rowdy rejects were making Democrats across the country smile and Independents wondering why they would ever consider voting for any Republican.  At one point, Kasich scolded the feuding foresome and chided them for hurling scathing and degrading insults at each other.  The Ohio Governor came down hard on his opponents.  "These attacks...some of them are personal.  I think we're fixin' to lose the election to Hillary Clinton if we don't stop this."  Kasich also suggested getting rid of all negative ads and focusing only on the issues.  But no reprimand by Kasich or Carson seemed to make a dent in the uncivil and unpresidential-like behavior of the sharp-tongued Trump, Cruz, Rubio and Bush.

As a Democrat who supports Hillary Clinton for President, I was jubilant as the Republicans unleashed their obnoxious and despicable fury upon one another.  As an American, however, I was embarrassed that these four grown men - each of whom feels he should be moving in to The White House next January 20th - were instead performing like juvenile jerks and nasty little brats.  None of the four - Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush - deserve to be running for President of the United States of America.  What each one does deserve...is a spanking.

And that's The Controversy for today.

  1. I think it’s funny that a “liberal, progressive Democrat” would talk about candidates that “no have business seeking the nomination for President”. Do I think that two of them went overboard at the debate? Yes, I do but that’s politics. What I truly find funny is that you condemn the GOP calling it the WWE yet never condemn the Democrats. You talk about being embarrassed; I am more embarrassed by the two Democrats running then the GOP. One of your candidates is a committed socialist who in the past took many of his ideas straight out of the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, he call for the nationalization of Utilities, Banks, Railroads and many other privately owned businesses, that’s called communism. Not to mention backing and praising countries like Venezuela and Cuba. Your favorite candidate Hilary Clinton wouldn’t know a truthful statement if it came up and bit her. She is being investigated by multiple groups including the FBI for possible criminal acts, Congress and the IRS and in many peoples belief mine included if it wasn’t for who her husband is or the Obama Justice department she would have been indicted by now. As the saying goes “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”.

    1. The two Democratic Presidential Candidates - Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders - have never acted like the four Republican Candidates who I mentioned as being "nasty little brats" in their last debate. Oh yes, Hillary and Bernie have had a tiff here and there, but they - for the most part - have been a lady and a gentleman during this campaign - except for recently when Bernie has said a few things untrue and offensive about Hillary. As for your remarks about Bernie being a Democratic Socialist, all I can do is laugh when you compare his thinking to "the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx." How sad of you to think that way. And there has never been one ounce of truth that Hillary has ever lied about anything. If she was ever guilty of - as you say - "criminal acts" then the next President of the United States would never have gotten this far. No glass houses here...only one...and it's White. And you'll be seeing Hillary Clinton (and Bill once again) moving back in where they belong on January 20th, 2017. GBD

  2. You state about my comments about Bernie Sanders “all I can do is laugh when you compare his thinking to the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx”, have you ever studied history? What would you call a person who calls for the nationalization of Utilities, Banks, Railroads and many other privately owned businesses? The federal government coming in and taking private businesses from there owners is one of the things called for by the Communist Manifesto. Bernie also calls for “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” also known as “re-distribution of wealth” also from Karl Marx and the Communist Manifesto. As for Hillary Clinton anyone who believes that as you say “there has never been one ounce of truth that Hillary has ever lied about anything” lives in a fantasy land. Talk to the families of four Americans who died in Benghazi who she told they died because of a video while telling her daughter and the Egyptian Prime Minister that it had nothing to do with the video. She lied to the families or to her daughter and the Prime Minister, both can’t be true! According to a Washington Post/ABC News poll, Hillary Clinton got a paltry 36 percent approval for being honest and trustworthy from Democrats, that leaves two thirds of Democrats say she is not honest or trustworthy. She may become our next President but that does not mean she is not a liar, it just mean a lot of people are like you and have drunk the Kool-Aid or just don’t care!

    1. Typical right-wing, conservative Republican response. Your words are untrue, but typical. You really have no clue as to what Bernie Sanders believes, but quite frankly, I'm not concerned because Hillary Clinton is going to beat Bernie hands-down. As for Hillary, she never lied about Benghazi. You really don't have your facts straight. As for the poll you quoted, say that again in November when Hillary wins the general election for President. 3. What words are untrue, Sanders in 1976 when running for Governor Vermont put out a platform calling for the nationalization of Utilities, Banks, Railroads and many other privately owned businesses. It is his words not mine. As for Hillary facts are facts you and the left keep drinking the Kool-Aid and I can hope there are less of you and more of the "Right Minded" people. I know its is hard to fight the left wing give me stuff for free and steel from those who work forit party (DNC).

    1. Shame, shame, shame. Again, I don't care what Bernie thinks or doesn't think since I believe Hillary will beat him. You can believe what you want about Hillary since I'm never going to change your mind. It's obvious that most Republicans are "Clinton Haters." Bill Clinton was the greatest President in my lifetime and he is still beloved worldwide. As for Hillary, SHE NEVER LIED!!! She spent 14 hours before Congress proving that. And yes, the United States of America was built on the rich helping the poor. Just because poor people are given things - as you say - for free, people who are on welfare - in many cases - work and work hard. They just need some extra help. If Republicans would understand that minimum wage needs to be double what it is now (or more) then maybe there wouldn't have to be so many people receiving federal and state assistance. A person can't live on $7.25 an hour and even if that person has 2 or 3 jobs they are still living in poverty. Plus, life is not just for work and no play or pleasure. No American should have to work 2 or 3 jobs. It's not right. Shame, shame, shame. No American should be living in poverty. Not now. Not ever. GBD

  4. I never said anything about welfare, I said free stuff, free college, free ins, free cellphones. Those that truly need help should always be given help. As for minimum wage raise it to $15 an hour and watch 100's of 1000's of people get laid off. Many fast food places will close. It is said that for every $1 raise in the minimum 1 out of every 12 people earning minimum will loose there job. Minimum wage was never meant to be career job, starter jobs for the young and part time buffers for those who need or want a little more. Our problem isn't the minimum wage it is the lack of better paying jobs and the trained people to do them. The Obama recovery is the weakest ever and that is the problem. As for Hillary everybody knows she lied many just don't want to admit it, as for her 14 hours she lied for 14 hours. As for Bill he was a very fine President once he moved to the center but best in my lifetime, he doesn't come close to Ronald Reagan.

    1. Well, what do you know? A Republican who supports welfare. Will wonders never cease! However, you don't get it when it comes to minimum wage. If what you are saying was true; that minimum wage jobs were not for careers, but just for start-up jobs and part-time buffers then we'd have no fast-food restaurants, no convenience stores, no supermarkets and we'd not have lots of other businesses. There are people who - for one reason or another - cannot seem to be hired for anything other than jobs as I just mentioned. Oh, they deserve more, but they can't seem to be offered better jobs. So a job that pays minimum wage is the best they can do. As such, they are taken advantage of by being paid only $7.25 an hour. As for President Obama...don't start with me. I think the President has been a wonderful President for many, many reasons. STOP, STOP, STOP with your nonsense about Hillary lying. She NEVER LIED ABOUT ANYTHING. And since you seem to be a loyal Republican, I can understand you saying that Ronald Reagan was the best President in your lifetime. But his "trickle down economics" only helped the rich and not the middle class or poor. Bill Clinton saved our country from Ronald Reagan and from his successor, George H.W. Bush. GBD

  5. So you just showed your true colors, you as most on the left do, you distorted the truth about Republicans with your comment: “Well, what do you know? A Republican who supports welfare. Will wonders never cease!” I don’t know any Republican that doesn’t believe in helping the misfortunate or the truly needy. We just believe that it should be a helping hand to get people back on their feet and rise above the need for a handout. That’s the difference the Democrats /Left don’t want to help people rise above it they want people to stay dependent on the government. The left want to give the needy a fish every day instead of teaching them how to fish, this keeps them dependent instead of independent. I will never stop telling the truth about Hillary, she is a liar that is a fact! As for your comments about Presidents Reagan and Bush 41, none of what you give Bill Clinton credit for would have been possible without Reagan and Bush. President Reagan brought this country back from the brink of disaster known as the Carter years. Without Reagan and Bush none of what Bill Clinton gets credit for would have happened. They brought back economic stability and growth which was the base for the prosperity of the 1990!
